I am at a standstill with my Tuskegee Mustang project. I am not sure of Blackwolf’s status as he has not returned any of my emails or AIM messages. He had said he was going to write up a tutorial for adding the fin fillet to the B to make it a C. Something happened in the meantime…I am not sure what exactly…but I am going to stop bothering the man as I am probably not helping his situation.
Looking at the fillet…I have not the slightest clue how to scratcgbuild it on my own without some tips or advice. I really want this to be my best model ever… the guy has been through a lot of crap in his life and I would like to do something nice for the man.
Would anyone possibly have a clue as to how I might go about doing this?? I was able to pick up the AM P-51C but, as Blackwolf had told me before, there are some definite fit problems. I am afraid when I try to add the Alclad-- it’ll end up looking like my 5 month old built it [:(] Please help…
WARNING: The B and C model Mustangs were the same aircraft Bs were built in Los Angeles and Cs in Dallas.
Only late production D/K models and later received a fin fillet at the factory, any B/C Mustangs with the fillet were modified by the unit they were assigned to.
Make sure that the aircraft you are building had it.
I’ve followed this project from the beginning and know that it very important to you and am only trying to give you a “heads up”.[^]
I want to see how this labor of love turns out.[:)]
I know-- thanks If only it were that easy, I’d have it halfway done. But Col. Dart did specify that his unit had the fin fillets on their C’s. They didn’t at first-- until they took them up to try them out when they first got one. One of his good friends did some pretty intensive maneuvers only to find himself tailless…I believe he was at the top of a loop and started a flat spin. He got out OK-- but when they saw that- they had the ground crews quickly add the fillets before they had to go into combat with them.
That was one detail he made sure I knew about-- so I want to make sure it is there.
My Alclad is in the mail-- and I plan on putting the plane on a base with Eduard’s Pierced Steel Planking underneath-- as again he did mention how bad the mud was at Capodichino in Italy.
I think I might have a P-51B fuselage laying around (Imurdered the wings practicing opening the gun bays), I’ll see if can workup something on a fillet if I still have it.
Hey Jeeves,
Not to throw you off even more or to start you over, but if I’m not mistaken I think Accurate Miniatures did a P-51B/C w/ a fillet. Or at least one of theirs early Stangs they did.
Then again I could be wrong since I have not looked at mine in a long time[:(].
I also talked to Blackwolf the other day, he had a lot of side projects that he had to catch up on plus a few things around the home[:D]

Yeah…as I was saying above though-- there are some fit problems [:(] I am afraid once the Alclad hits my attempts to fix the fit-- it’ll look like I took a spot welder to it!
Good to hear that Steve is OK…he kind of dropped off and I was concerned. I’d love to see his tutorial if he is still planning on doing it as he is a talented guy and I think with his instruction, I could do about anything with modeling. But to hell with the tutorial-- it’s good to know at least that he’s alright. He is under no obligation to help me out…God knows he has helped me tremendously on this already!
I’d love to be able to say I can figure it out on my own…but never having even picked up sheet styrene before- I would just be lying [B)] Thus my general appeal to all of you. I’d like to get this one done for Col. Dart soon as he didn’t look too well the last time I saw him [:(]
Hey Jeeves,
Let me see if the good man is still gonna do the tutorial?? If worse comes to worse could you practice w/ some resin?.
By this I mean left over resin form update kits and the like. I know what ya mean by trying somin out for the first time. It kinda gets ya in the stomach right?? LMAO…[:p][:p]
Please say hiya to Col Dart for me and give him my regards. Once your Stang is done, I know he’ll love it!!
Which grp/sqd did he fly w/
