snipers

Hey all. Does anyone out there know of any good sniper kits? I’m stumped.

DML has a good German set 1/35 scale

Also check out Hornet and Wolf

p.s. does anyone know how to build a ghuili suit from scratch?

What scale? Verlinden produce (although I think they may be OOP) both a german SS sniper and a British para sniper in 120mm.

Ghuili suites are usually a pair of overalls with pieces of cam net and scrim (old hessian from sandbags) sewn to it. Mostly design is left to the individual to come up with their own, and I have read that at the start of the sniping course the ghuili suit is covered with ‘garnish’, but as the snipers confidence increases, it gets pruned back somewhat.

To make one in 120mm I would use lots of little pieces of muslin cloth torn and cut into little bits, muslin cloth has the advantage of being very close to hessian in 120mm. I would also add other strips from tissue, and maybe some natural foliage like moss etc.

The only sniper kit i have ever seen is in 1/35 scale and its a red army sniperes set. probably not much help though right. ill have to see if i cant find them larger scale snipers and the 1/35 scale german set. =). as to the ghuili suit, in WW1 the suits were overalls with camo netting and old rags and fake leaves and twigs. the snipers made the suits them selves so there was no one pattern. If you want to try to make one you might take an old cloth rag made from like a T-shirt, stain it an earth green brown color and then cut it up into small peices and glue the peices onto the soldier. PRACTICE ON OLD MODElS BEFORE DOING IT ON THE ONE YOU WANT TO LOOK GOOD. my method might not work for you at all. but who knows. as to WW2 and beyond, i really cant help you there

there’s also a good set from Dragon on 1/35, it’s modern snipers, the figures come in great positions and with great sniper rifles, for the guilli suit, I use the same materials that I would use for the real one and then I just paint accordinly, and for the paded side of the coverals I use green putty and scrible the lines of the pads in it with the hobby knife, hope this helps

The DML modern US Sniper Team figures are really good. Most DML/Dragon figures are pretty good but they usually screw up the feet/boots. These guys however, have realistic molded jungle boots. All the other details are the great quality you’d expect also. If you want to represent a modern team, I’d use them.

As for the ghillie suit, I’m more partial to dyed jute twine. Tie the twine to netting sewn to the back of a pair of oversized BDUs and boonie hat. The jute works to break up your outline the same way burlap does but it doesn’t require all the preparation or add as much bulk. And don’t forget to heavily reinforce the front, knees and elbows with canvas - snipers are subject to a lot of low crawling.

Happy landings

My technic : “do it yourself”
So, I made a serbian sniper with milliput and Fimo, using arms and rifle from MK35 (french manufacturer) SS sniper kit.
Just try sculpting, it’s not extremely difficult !
