Size Matters Not (Italeri 1/48 Herc)

Hey guys ,just a few progress pics of the Herc I am building for a friend.

She is going to be in Royal Malaysian Airforce colors.
I would really appreciate it if anybody has any similar pictures
as I believe this was a standard delivery scheme(please correct me if I am wrong)

Here is a pic of the aircraft to be modeled.[:)]

This is the progress so far.The front window has been sanded to blend into the fuselage.

obiwan my friend you do outstanding work. looking forward to the progress on this one.

joe

Looking good[:D]

I was tempted to pick one up the last time I was at my LHS, But how to convince my girlfried it was a must have item passed me by.[%-)]

James

Thanks Joe and Homer(Doh!)

Sanding took up the most time in the build so far.The parts go together well.
I sanded the front windows with 400grit then 1000 then with Tamiya Polishing
Compound Fine and Superfine.

Where a you going to park that beast? Nice build

Thad

whoa…Mr. Kenobe…[:O]
may the force and a good sized hangar be with you…

cant help you with the pictures or reference but I do hope you dont mind if I oggle…

how big is that baby ?

That is a great looking beast so far obiwan. Wish I could have the room to build that beast, but I know that a 1/72nd one is in the future. Thanx for sharing. Bryan

Thanks Thad, cirikili ,Awood23 and Reg.

Thad and cirikili ,she is going to be given away ,sniff. I am building it for a friend who flew the bird in the picture above.I am quite sure he is one of the guys in the picture.
However my mother inlaw suggested I build one for myself later.

Reg ,she is approximately 2 feet by 2 feet. She has aroled up ball of solder wire (2inches in diameter) for a nose weight. So far I’ve used half a bottle of Plasticweld putting her together and another half a bottle of gunze gray paint for the interior.
I haven’t even started on the outside yet…

Thanks falcon039 ,as you can see there is barely room on my worktable for her and sometimes I leave her on the floor. It would look nice hanging from the ceiling though.

When my friend first asked me to do this project ,I asked him “what scale?”
He said…“The bigger the better” so here we are…

Mine is still sitting snugly in its box - 16 years after purchase!
I would love to build it - cutaway C Mk3 stretch with harrier fuselage & wing on JATE trollies inside - but lack of space prevents me.

I built the AC-130 in 1/48 many years ago, it is a beast. One of these days I’ll get another one and see how I’ve improved. This one is looking great, keep us posted.

the bigger the better hu??? should have tried a 1/32 scale for him and say “well you said…”

It looks pretty good Obiwan! And Huge! Does it have a fully detailed interior? If so, can you post photos? Thanks and keep up the good work!

That “MONSTER” is looking great, obiwan !
What paint brand are you using for the exterior (I want to buy some stock in the company !) [swg]
Looking forward to the next pics !

Excellent progress on the build. It should be a very impressive model when completed. Looking forward to more progress pics.

Regards, Rick

Thanks oggy4624 , lemonjello ,Jorch ,Pix and Rick.

oggy4624 ,that sounds like a great build waiting to happen.I would never have built this kit if not for my friend.

Lemonjello ,the AC-130 is a mean one a real a## kicker.

Awood ,that would be madness ,I would have to cut a bigger doorway to get it out of the workshop.A really interesting big kit would be a An-225 Mira in 1/72.I saw a limited fiberglass kit but I’ll wait for someone to come out with the plastic one.

Jorch ,it has a lot of detail on the inside. However since it was going to be covered up
and given away ,I only painted the base color with minor detailing.
I will squeeze in a pic of the interior when I post pics of the finished build though.

Pix ,I have no idea how much paint its going to suck up(especially with a white finish)

Rick ,it certainly will look good hanging from the ceiling.

That is a big model… Looks good so far Obiwan…

my goodness eng hui, 2 feet ! what a fantastic bird! how much did you pay for the kit, where did you get it ?
