six shooters apache tribute

hi I was wondering if anyone has information on the 6-6 calvary apaches from about the time of the kosovo/bosnia conflict. The reason being my father, warrant officer kevin lee reichert was killed in an apache crash in albania when i was 7 or so. I was hoping that someone had information on what they were color schemes were

thanks

I’m sure Jon (Cobrahistorian) will be along to give a dinitive answer. He is a current Apache pilot and has written a book about them as well.

Here is what I know. They were and are still painted in overall Helo Drab Green, available in the Testors Model Master lines. Not sure of any unit specific markings other than the standard stenciling on them.

Good luck with it. It will be a good tribute to your dad. Sorry you lost him so young.

Hi FG! First off, I’m sorry you lost your dad, he was WAY too young to die. I got assigned to Illeshiem Germany/6-6 Cav about 5 months after the accident, and all I can say about your dad is that he was one of the most respected aviators in the Army. Him and David Gibbs will be remembered in Army aviation forever. I didn’t get the chance to work with them, but the respect and legacy they left behind is still famous with the folks of the 6/6,2/6, and 7-159 Aviation units in Illesheim and the entire Army.

As for the color schemes of the Apaches of the Six Shooters, their standard Army “CARC” green or Army Drab colors, although some of our aircraft had some “nose art” if you will, like the Ace of Spades painted on the vertical stab. Some of the aircraft had triangles, circles and some had squares painted in white on the engine nacelles, etc. I have a few pictures of the aircraft, although in the other house, when I get them, I’ll scan a few and send them to you. (unless you get some before that!) Very nice “meeting” the son of a legend! Rich.

Hi there FG!

Rich and Gino pretty much covered it there. I’ve flown with a number of guys who were in 6-6 around that time. Lemme see what I can do about finding some info for ya. My instructor pilot for both the AH-64A and the D were 6-6 guys.

If there’s anything I can do to give you a hand, please don’t hesitate to email me at cobrahistorian@yahoo.com.

Take care brother.
