I’m working on YMW’s 1/350 USS Louisville CA 28 and need a great way to simulate panes of glass in the bridge and observation towers. I’ve tried the method of scribing in the windows with a pencil/eversharp but am not totally pleased with the result. Anyone have any other tried & true methods for creating the look and feel of glass in small scale windows?
Thanks!
I’ve used white glue, or also jewelers adhesive.
I’ve used a black Sharpie pen with a little white glue as a glaze, it looks OK to me.
I have used clear acetate sheet held in with and covered with Future floor polish on many ship models.
Try “Crystal-Clear” (I may have the spelling wrong), manufactured by Microscale (the decal people). I’ve used it pretty succesfully on 1/700 models.
This, of course, assumes that the windows in question are genuinely open voids. If not (i.e., if they’re just recessed or outlined on a flat surface), I know of nothing more convincing than black or dark blue paint.
I use Krystal-Klear on portholes or other small openings. Future is the same thing I think. If you can see into the space then some interior detail or dark background colour would be called for.
Good luck,
Bruce
Humbrol’s Clearfix - nice effect. When you oparate carefuly, you can even make quite big windows. I used it in my 1/72 S-100 and S-10.
