Hello, I had kind of a messy experience w/silly putty the other day. Has anyone experienced that when you attempt to remove the product, it seemed wet and “strings” like hot mozzerella from your favorite pizza pie and leaves some if itself behind?
Was humidity a factor? It didn’t seem that humid…
I had hoped that it would remain firm and peel off without mess and residue.
I have heard some folks having problems using silly putty. I use Handitack from Bed Bath and Beyond. If you can fing it, Blu tack from BVostick os great too. It’s reuseable poster tack. When i bought it to test i put some on a model and forgot it was there. It was there for about a month and when it came off it didn’t leave a mark at all.
One thing to be carefull with silly putty is if you have to repaint an area that was in contact with the putty use a Qtip or cloth with a bit of soapy water and clean the area. It leave an invisible micro film of oil or something to that effect that will cause adherence problems with the new coat of paint. I can attest that Gunze & Vallejo acrylics don’t like it.
I used the yellow Handi-tac stuff from Walmart on my Jagdpanzer and was very happy with how it turned out. Left absolutely no trace when I peeled it off and other paints followed behind with no problems.
DO NOT USE the white stuff from Staples. The stuff I got from the was oily and left terrible marks on the painted surface. Bad batch? dunno. Whatever brand you use, test it first.
Anyway, don’t let any of that stuff (blue, yellow or white) come into contact with turpenoid, mineral spirits or any oil based solvents. You’ll get a super sticky messthat’s impossible to deal with.
