hey guys sorry i havent been on fsm for a long time but you know s**t happens!
but any way i was reading a post on hear about a month or 2 ago about someone asking about water and they asked about silicone and no one seemed to have an answer for it but about 2 weeks ago i bought 1 tube of mono ultra clear silicone (goes on white dries clear) it took about 3 days for it to cure and its still a bit taky (not bad looking but sticky!) and i think it loks more realistic than woodland scenics water stuff and its only $5 a tube!!
o yeah and you dont need to worrie about bubbles!
I posted that back in june not too many replys though , but I did try it on a scrap piece of wood which was painted in different shades of blue and black and then I put the silicone on , the only problem is its every tacky . I then left it for a week too cure properly . and it turned out quite good .
cheers mike[:p]
Interesting idea. I want to give it a try. So you basically paint the surface first with varying shades of blue, and then apply the silicone on top? How do you texture it?
I use silicone seal (not sure if “seal” is the right word) from Ceys for water splashes, such the top of the waves, soldier running on beach, waves hitting the shore…
i use silicone chaulk from a hardware store. i just used my fingers to texture it, but there’s ot to be a better way. id suggest to paint and apply the chaulk in layers to add depth and increase wave height. u could probably use something like a toothbrush or a stiff bristle brush to create wavs,or some kind of sculpting tool. just dip it in water before hand, as i think the stuff is water soluable, and itll make it wasier to sculpt.
