I’d be keen to do an in-service “what-if?” of the Sikorsky S-67 BlackHawk gunship, which was to be the AH-3. Question is, what would likely have been the official US Army name? I think that they may have reverted to a Native American tribe name, but which? Taking a look through this page at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_Tribes gives a list of names, but nothing really screams out at me. I don’t want to stay with BlackHawk as, due to it being a company sales name, perhaps only foreign customers would use it?
Any/all thoughts would be welcome…as well as shots of any built-up Anigrand S-67s. I can’t for the life of me find any!
It would have been the Blackhawk, that was the next name on the list. Since it wasn’t used, it went to the UH-60. Not sure what the next few names on the list are though.
I will be interested to know about this kit. I want to build one but my bank account dictates that I wait to find out if it is worth the money. I have been quite happy with Revellogram lately and I could get three or four of these for the price of the S-67. The problem is that the itch is starting to get hard to ignore.
As far as a name for the series, I’m not sure that there is a list to follow. I believe that the only real list is one of those already used and a name for a new series essentially is done by commitee as they come along.
As someone else noted, there is no list of what name to use for the next helicopter. Sikorsky named the S-67 the Blackhawk, but since we never bought any, the Army never officially named it. Only thing I can suggest is to pick a tribe with a warlike reputation. The two aircraft designed from the start as attack aircraft and named by the Army are the Apache and the Comanche.
Thanks gents! I’ll probably stick with AH-3F BlackHawk. [tup]
I’m with Screaminhelo: who here has actually built the Anigrand kit? I’m dying to see shots of one, and I know of only two modellers online who have at least started (but I’m yet to see their shots). If you have one on the bench - or started and back in the box, for whatever reason - please share!
Incidentally, if you have one that you don’t want to build, let me know :).
