I would to bring something up about modeling forums that many of you might not have thought of.
Every so often I come across a thread that has a lot of good modeling ideas and pictures describing peoples models. I like to print the threads and save them in a notebook. Many times, a member may post many times to a long thread and herein lies the problem.
Many people have large pictures, advertising, or other such stuff in their signature. I understand why you want them there, but, I would like for you to think of this;
When a thread gets printed, those large signatures are printed too, each and every time a person has posted to that thread. This takes up a lot of room, or in other words, it uses a lot of paper and ink for absolutely no reason.
I would like to kindly ask you to be considerate of others. It’s no fun running out of ink in the middle of a print job.
BigJim, did you know that you can turn off the signatures and images in your profile? Rather than asking everyone else to not use them, it is a simple matter for you to avoid them. Just a thought.
You’re welcome. I’m glad you are taking my words as advice and not as an insult! It’s a fairly simple matter to turn off and then turn back on. It would be better if they allowed a printer friendly button that would strip out all the extraneous images and allow us to print them in B&W saving even more ink. But we can’t have everything we want, eh?
When I want to print out something in a thread, I cut and paste into word, that way its easy to edit making it fit the page better and I don’t have to print all the extra stuff (FSM header, ads, signatures, unneccessary photos etc.
Not quite as easy as a print freindly button doing it for you but not too much trouble and I usually find I don’t need everything anyway. There are always little jokes and such that while funny I don’t need to print them so I like the ability to edit.
