[:)]Hi Everyone,
my next project is the famous F-4J “Showtime 100” It’s the 1/48 Hasegawa kit and I’ve just started playing with it-here’s the progress so far:
Bang seats and Cockpit-kit parts+Eduard PE.
Let me know what you think,

Looking great mate, looking great!
Please keep us posted.
What’s the kit like, panel lines etc, etc?
[^][:D][8D][bow][tup][wow]
Thanks Janswede,
The kit is pretty good in my opinion, I’ve built two before (F-4S & F-4J/UK) and they go together pretty well. They have very fine recessed panel lines and include drop tanks and misslies. Adding the Eduard PE set enhances the kit by giving the cockpit a better level of detail.
I’ve put the fuselage together now and sanded off the seam lines-it’ll get a coat of paint tonight-hopefully I’ll get time to post pics tomorrow. Glad you like the show so far.
Regards,
Darren.
The cockpit for your F-4 is looking very good. Lts Cunningham and Driscoll would feel right at home.

Looks like a great start. Please keep posting pics as you go! When I finally get around to doing an F-4 I plan to do the Duke Cunningham’s bird myself. I can’t wait to see more as you get to it.
Very nice work on the pit & seats. Keep us posted.
Regards, Rick
Looks good so far keep us posted the Phantom is one of my favorites.
Impressive start to your Phantom, Darren, beautiful work, thanks!! [:)]
Take care,
Frank
Looking great. Bryan
beautiful work…
Thanks for your comments guys! I’ve had this one sat in the “to do” pile for a while now, it was about time I gave it a go. Glad you like the show so far and thanks for letting me share this build with you.
Regards,
Darren.
Darren,
WOW!!! That pit looks like the real thing.Simply outstanding work.

Looks GREAT!!! I’ve got the Revell/ Monogram 1:48 myself on the “to-do” list I purchased the Legend cockpit for it too. I look foreward to seeing more pics as you go & when it’s done!![^][bow][yeah]
Dragonfly, thanks! [tup]
Here’s what I got up to today:
First, because this is a “J” version of the F-4, I had to remove the six formation strips from the fuselage. You have to be careful here if you want to save surface detail so the surrounding areas were carefully masked
Next, I removed the reinforcement plates from the horizontal stabilizers(these seem to be on every Hasegawa F-4) The one on the left has been corrected and the one on the right shows the outline of the part to be removed.
Here’s the fuselage put together and the first coats of paint. I’ve checked my references and they show the metal plated area aft of the aircraft to be dark tones all over, as opposed to the other F-4’s that I’ve built which have been a mixture of light and dark tones-if any of you have a decent colour pic of this particular bird, it would sure come in handy! (all my pics of the real aircraft are in B/W)
Hope you are all enjoying the show so far[:)]
Darren[;)]
Looking great, and some quick progress too. I’ve never seen color pics of that bird, so I can’t be of any help there. Keep posting your progress pics though, it’s coming beautifully.
Yes Darren, you’re moving right along, refining the details as you go… great job and having a ball too I bet! [:)]
Thanks for the update,
Frank
[:)]Maddafinger, thanks for your kind words
[8D]Frank, I’m having a great time with this one, it’ll take a bit longer than usual to finish because I’m trying to get it as accurate as I can. As for doing a great job, I’m not sure…I’ve spent the evening with my search engine overheating in a quest to find colour pics of this bird and I found out to my horror that my metalic paint on the aft is too dark[:0][V] Well, I’ll just have to re-mix my metallics and do it properly this time. I found this pic on my surfing travels and thought I’d post it here for anyone else who may need it. As you can see, it’s more mettalic grey on top than aluminium so I will re-spray and keep the picture nearby to guide me
Tomorrow, I’ll make a start on the weapons and undercarridge…[:D]
See you tomorrow,
Darren.[;)]
Showtime 100 is a nice bird, but you don’t beat these two in colors.

Anyone of you guys who knows who make these decals in 1/48??
Sorry to tease Jan,
Those are sweet colors for the F-4, but were they fighter aces too?
Showtime 100 is replicated because it was a legend not merely just for its color scheme.
To each their own though, as they say…

Tango,
Thanks for the detailed review with pictures…I was considering building her as
well and your insights are greatly appreciated…I’m not sure if all the forum members realize it takes a lot of effort to post a review epecially with lots of pics.
Each one must be uploaded to a sight like photobucket and then downloaded on the forum…
Most of us do it because we love to, but it’s nice when others give the recognition deserved even if the pics are not of their favorite topic…We can still
appreciate the effort…
That’s just my opinion though…
Take care,
Tank
