Show your Revell/Monogram builds

Hobby Lobby closed the stores around here, however there is Michaels Craft Stores, they carry Revell kits and offer a 40% and sometimes even 50% off coupons. Thats where I get all my Revell and Monogram kits and its even cheaper than evilbay where I used to get them. For other kits I use my LHS and he gives me 20% off MSRP at least, most times it more like 30%.

Never had anything but positive experiences with them - a bit slow to get orders out the door. Probably Squadron-speed vs. Sprue Brothers. They’re great for paint, too…

Paint is no worry here. Several well stocked LHS within short drives from my home or on the way in to work to fill that need.[H] I have never used Sprue Brothers. Squadron, Great Models, and Roll Models have been my online stores (besides the E[6]Bay)

Now they are two outstanding builds! Cant say that Ive ever seen a “Fortress” painted up like a “Lanc” but I like it…I like it alot…(in my best Jim Carey) [Y][:D]

HAMMER: I understand what your saying and agree with you completely. All Im saying is the only reason I havent tackled the Tamigawa kits in my stash is because I believe I have a ways to go in improving my skills. I don’t want to get started on one of those kits till I’ve gotten better at cleaning up seems, shading,/weathering, masking… I love Monograms kits because they turn out models Im happy to display and if I make mistakes it doesn’t hurt so much knowing I only dished out $12 to $15 and I can go out, get the same kit, start over and learn from my mistakes. Ive got a couple of Tamiya’s 1/48 Lancasters in my stash that I cant wait to get started on. These planes are near and dear to me and I want to do a REALLY god job on them. But if I was to make rookie mistakes and ruin the kit $80 or more is going to hurt trying to replace the kit.

TROUBLEMAKER: B-17’s were sold to England in the early parts of the war and Shawns build is a beauty. Though I have to admit, Ive never seen one in the night bombing colors. Not saying they didnt exist, just that I havent seen em. Most of the ones I saw were in the RAF’s Coastal Command colors. Gray Green on top and white bottoms. There used to be a very talented builder on this site named Swanny. Some of the guys here can probably point you in the direction of his web site. He has a very nice build of one on his page. Plus his site was loaded full of tips to make better models. I know I learned alot from it.

That RAF B-17 is some sort of early Electronic Intellegince/Warfare bird IIRC. I have an issue of “Combat Aircraft” that has a great rundown on the various B-17s variants and there is a brief description with a color profile of that type. Possibly a B&W photo as well. All the antennas and radomes were for ferreting out Luftwaffe radar and night fighter radio frequencies. I cant recall if it had jamming equipment on board as well. Due to their operating with the Bomber Command heavies at night, the Night Bomber camo scheme. Talk about a unique build[Y]

Who’s got the next R/M build photo for here?

Nice thread Stik. Here’s a 1996 Revell-Monogram P-51B. Aeromaster decals and a Tamiya canopy, with only minor adjustments for a good fit.

Jostle Jammer:

Wabash, another beautiful R/M build!

PZL, thanks for the additional info on the RAF Fort. So it was an active EW bird as well. Very interesting!

But that pic… overlapping panels and raised rivets…[:O] How 1970s [;)]

Old Hawk Bearcat prop reworked to paddle blade and scratch built rocket stubs.

Scratch canopy locks and other details

Rabbit- I know they used em, just never saw one in a night bomber scheme. I also know Swannys site…use his builds for ideas on mine sometimes. Youre right, hes a very talented modeler with awesome looking builds. Thanks for the info!

Nice additions to this thread Mel[Y] I particularly like the Mustang and Hun[:P]

No where near some of the great looking models posted so far but here are a couple of pics of my first airplane model built in about 30 years. I did kinda let some stuff slide towards the end as I was seeing that I could already do better and did not want to go back and “fix” things.

Melgyver: I love your builds… I wanted to ask, How did you paint the engine scorch marks on your

F-100?

I posted these on the thread I already had going but they belong here too

MrRabitt,

On my F-100 I used MM Metalic paint for the base color and hand painted brown, brass and metalic blue to get the burnt metal effect. Someone with a state of the art air brush could pobably get a little better effect. The only gripe I had was some silvering of small decals. I have to admitt this kit was built over 30 years ago! Same for the F-51. It’s the same Mustang kit you are working on. Worst thing was fitting the removable lower cowling. Oh, check your tail wheel mount placement. I think the kit has it too high in the fuselage, not at home to look at mine. Just look a pictures of the aircraft you are building for little things like the distance between the top of the wheels and gear doors, etc. Strut height will change with an empty or fully loaded aircraft. Monograms B-17 is an offender, main gear mounts to far in, tires too close to engine nacells even for a fully loaded bird. More pictures you look at the more little details will pop out! On the F-100 I noticed a rubber block secured with wire mid way of the emergency landing hook to prevent contact and rubbing against the fuselage and drag chute cable at base of vertical fin.

Good luck with your Mustang build!

the RAF Fortress III used in EW is not known very well, and even harder to research! I assure you mine is about as accurate as I could build it. Not saying perfect mind you by any grasp of the definition.

Thanks for the compliments, the Apache was fun, even more so since I dont own an airbrush so the whole paint scheme is done with a hairy tipped stick.

Your B-17 Mk.III is a beauty, here is one done in 1/72 by a guy in the UK:

I forgot to add this one,

A Douglas A-20 Havoc, I think G model?
It is a sort of “what-if” plane, gave it the africa paint sheme of the US army and added some pin-up art.
I think this is a re-box issue from AMT or something? Can’t really tell… definitely isn’t a Revell or Monogram kit!

Regards Ninetalis

then why post it here??

At least read the whole discripsion…

I will make it a little more clearer,
definitely isn’t an ORIGINAL Revell or Monogram kit

Regards Ninetalis.
