Well… unfortunately, my “work bench” is the kitchen table. Causes some degree of confusion…
I routinely have in-progress boxes & general mess at one end. Luckily, there are only 3 of us in the house, and (apparently) the wife is ridiculously tolerant.
And I keep most of my supplies (paint, tools, scratchbuilding material etc etc) in a cheap little rolling cabinet.
Spray-painting is done outside when it is warm enough, or in the basement near an exterior vent w/ fan pushing outside.
Very interesting subject guys. Right now, I’m modeling on my kitchen table but eventually I will organize my little office so I can scale model and also create a railroad model.
Hey Devil Dawg, Tamiya is my favorite and Model Master Acrylics have a lot of special colors. But, I recently read that your plain Jane, average acrylics you get at your craft store (ie A.C. Moore, Micheal’s), will do the job just as well. I have only sprayed that type/brand once, and I honestly didn’t see much of a difference. I plan on doing more experimenting and have bought a box load of the paints. You can get them for as little as $.59! Of course it is mostly your basic colors. You won’t find a Dunkelgelb or Afrika Mustard, but for basic colors, being able to go uber cheap, will allow for more of the special colors to be purchased. Best thing to do is go buy a bottle or 2 and try it out. I would suggest NOT trying it with white. White is hard to work with period!

I can remember using the kitchen table a few years back, when I was getting started again in the hobby. I managed to knock over and spill some Tenax 7-R on my wife’s (notice I didn’t say “our”) new kitchen table, and, in mere seconds, it took the table’s finish right off where ever that glue landed. Needless to say, I did not build models on the kitchen table again…
I remember reading that somewhere myself. I’m gonna have to give those el cheapo paints a try.

Go for it. Like I said, I got a ton of them from A.C. Moore for 59 cents a bottle! They go up in price from there depending on the brand, but for those prices you can afford to experiment and see if they work for you. White is tricky no matter what, give the other colors a shot. Easy clean up some Windex and you’re ready to move on. Let me know what you think when you give it a shot.

Thanks so much! I just saw your post this afternoon. You have a good eye my friend, but that’s a Yugo M24/47 Mauser in the pic, you are spot on with the rest however. I love those old wood and steel rifles. And yes, they are as addictive as eating potato chips. Currently, I have 6 different Mausers (the Yugo 24/47, a K98, a Czech Vz-24, a Yugo M52, a 1940 Turk, and a Swede M96), 4 Enfields, including an unfired ex-“mummy” wrapped No. 4 from the last year of production (1955), 8 Mosins (I love my M39s, all 4 of them) and 4 K-31s and one lonely K-11. Whew! lol.
I really like the Liberty safe and just have to find space for another one. Heck, I’ve got milsurps stored in an antique wardrobe now. I appreciate your comments about my models too!

This is my loyal 9 month old 62 lb. Rottie/Lab puppy Holly. She will be more than happy to retrieve any plastic part that lands on the carpet!

Nope, but we do have another dog (a chi-weenie (chihuahua/dachshund mix)) that will chew/eat anything he finds on the floor. Shoulda named him “Goat”.
Dawg - Can we get a pic of the Chiweenie. I have one too. I have a couple of little (like a stuffed animal) figures. Mine loves those things, I figure that if she’s chewing on them, then she’ll leave other things alone
Chiweene…that’s so cool. Can you post a picture of him? Just be glad it’s not a cross between a Bulldog and a Shih-Tzu… you know what that’s called [;)]

He’s a dachshund/border collie mix (a 24-hour per day energy ball), and the chiweenie is named Bently, who’s attitude is just the opposite of Max - he loves to just lay around and sleep all day.
It ain’t much, but here’s where ze magics are worked… all nice and organized!
Well my work bench is also my kitchen table.
Hope to fix that soon with a dedicated work bench!

Grey Snake, I can remember when I carried all of my modeling gear in a box and worked at the kitchen table, just like you’re doing now. That pic sure brings back memories for me. Yeah, having a dedicated work space will make a huge difference. Good luck!
