I’m sure this has probably been done before, but I would love to see everyone’s work area. FSM did this a while back in the magazine, and I saw a lot of ideas in there for my own workbench. So, post some pictures of your workbench! Here are some of mine:
This is my work area. It’s just an old computer desk that I bought at the IKEA in Atlanta last year (still has the keyboard drawer on it). Under the right side of the table is my 2.5-gallon Campbell-Hausfeld compressor that I bought about 10 years ago at Wal-Mart for $70, and is still going strong. I have two Testors Aztek double-action airbrushes, and a Paasche VL double-action internal mix airbrush. There’s a little candle warmer that I use to keep my water warm when decaling (about $8 at Hobby Lobby). And, as you can see in the picture, I have the requisite myriad paints, paint brushes, sanding sticks, sand paper, vises, X-Acto knives, glues, etc, etc. The altimeter clock was a present from my oldest son this year, just because. The lamp is a quartz-halogen affair with two intensity settings. Works very well.
Another view. The bookshelf to the right is where all reference materials, spare parts, decals, and FSM magazines are kept, as well as in-progress kits.
My stash in the upper reaches of my closet. This is only about 50% of it. The rest is situated on either side of what you see in the picture. I couldn’t get the entire contents of my stash in one pictures, as I couldn’t back up far enough…

Lots of stuff there Devil Dawg! Someone messed up your photos by adding the guitars instead of drums though…just kidding! Looks like you have room for another shelf and more kits in what I’m guessing is a closet!
Okay, I’ll play. Of course, these have been posted here somewhere before but some new folks might find it interesting. When we bought our house 22 years ago, we added quite a bit of footage. One room was dedicated to my needs and we call it the study. It seemed plenty big enough back then, but like “Topsie”, it sort of “growed”, lol. It houses all my modeling stuff, a lot of my gun stuff and some stuff for my teaching gig. I realize it would probably drive a ADHD person crazy, but believe it or not, I do know where almost everything is. Frankly though, I will need another display cabinet one day and I already need anther gun safe and there is literally not one empty wall in our house to place another. Ah, such is the plight of a packrat. At any rate, here are a few pics of my study.
I love it! Cluttered but organized. I wish my man cave looked as good as yours! And I wish I had as many finished models on my shelves! [:D[ [t$t] I didn’t see a work bench, though. Where do you build your models?
Thanks Devil Dawg! Cluttered is the truth and sometimes I get a little claustrophobic in there but I simply don’t have anywhere else to put all that crap, lol. I build on a corner of that white drop-leaf table. I would LOVE to have a big ol’ open bench for that but again, where would it go? Lol, woe is me! Here are a couple or three pics of my workspace. It was cleared off for my Wildcat build when the pics were made.

Still in the organizing stage. I’m working on building display shelves on the blank wall using glass shelves and Plexi sliding doors (still working a deal for the glass). But here is the “factory”!
Hehehe, that’s mighty kind of you DD.[:D] That rifle collecting has also taken on a life of its own. I’m planning to exercise those this summer, out at my ranch/farm. At the moment, I’m in dire need of another gun safe, but alas, some problem…where to put the bloody thing!
Hey Gary, You know, we were VERY fortunate when we bought this house. The previous owner left just about everything! The basement is partially finished and I KNEW that room was the hobby room. That table was already in there just waiting for the plastic to make it feel better! I have 4 kits in progress and 2 sitting there waiting for the GB’s to start. The table is a good thing and a bad thing…good that I can have many kits working at one time like you said…the bad thing…I can have many kits working at one time! [;)]
I haven’t done this since my move last year, but as it happens eagle and myself where shareing pics of our benches the other day. So I just happen to have some to hand.
This is the bench. Don’t panic, I had just finished tidying up the room, the bench is never that tidy. This room is supposed to be the dinning room and is the only way from the front to the back of the house. So I don’t have exclusive access.
And this is where the stash is, in the outdoor shed. The bench on the right is my new spray and soldering area. Most of the models are in the 4 large boxes’ at the end, and two slightly smaller ones to my right.
No drums, guitars or guns (not real ones anyway) in my poor excuse for a man cave.
The last time I counted, the stash was sitting at about 200. Its gone up a little since then. All those on the long shelf are figure sets, but I don’t count those. I have got to get the stash out and sort it at some point, I have no idea what box has what kits at the moment.
Hey f8sader, the one on top of the blue shelves is the Revell History Maker version. If you look straight down from it, under the bench, you will see the old kit. Great kits!
Great work areas, guys! Love them. Got a question, though - where do you spray-paint? I didn’t see any spray booths in the pictures. I haven’t sprayed any paint at the new house yet, but I’m guessing that I’ll be spraying down in the garage, unless I can buy or build a decent spray booth with good exhaust.
Hey Devil Dawg, Right now, I’m doing my best to use acrylics only in the AB. I found that they have very little odor. I’m not spraying a 1/72 B-52 or anything that big yet, but I haven’t had any complaints about smell from anyone else in the house. They never know when I’ve sprayed. But when I hand brush enamels…they can smell them upstairs. And when I go to clean the brushes they can smell the thinner. The only reason I’d consider a booth would be for any over spray that may occur.
Until a couple of weeks ago I sprayed rigt at my bench, the compressor was on the little cabinet to the right. I mostly use enamels, so I used to try and do it when everyone else was out. I have a window to the left of my bench which I opened with a fan blowing across me.
But now I finally sorted the shed out, it has been moved out there. Its much better for all. A spray both is next on the shopping list, hopefully next week. But at the moment I just leave the door and window open.
