Glad to hear that you’re starting on a Dora…arguably the prettiest of the 190 family…
This is my version - a DML 1/48th version - the same as the Tri-Master kit, but without the extra bits added - and with AeroMaster decals.
Hope you enjoy it.
LOL…the kit is an OLD DML 48th scale offering (ex-trimaster). I believe it is a D-12. It came from the kit that offered a torpedo carrying option !!! I believe a few D’s were experimented with as torpedo bombers…Anyway, I dropped that idea and went with a conventional fighter. The markings are ficticous…I used some of the kit’s and some from a Barkhorn sheet to mark mine with…
LOL, thx for that Manny. And to everyone else who has posted Doras. There must be more, Surely. On mine, Ive looked at the painting Instructions and there seems to be an awfull lot of mixing involved to get the paint colors. There is no easy way to paint these things, is there?
Here’s my Tamiya 1/48 that I built a few years ago. It is currently being re-done a little (new antennas, hypo tube barrels, brake lines, etc.) so I’ll post a pic when she’s finished. [tup]
This one dates from maybe eight or nine years ago. It’s another Papagei Staffel effort, this time the Italeri re-pop of the Dragon/ Trimaster kit (no white metal or etch, but to be frank, that’s no loss, and means that the price was only 1/3 of the original). with aftermarket decals from a firm called ADS who are based in Bristol, and have their stuff printed for them by Fantasy Printshop. They do some interesting work, and are worth looking out for.
Otherwise, pretty much OOB. though I added leather gaiters from wine-bottle foil over the inner part of the main u/c wells, to hide the lack of detail in the fuselage between the firewall and the front of the cockpit. I found some sources at the time which said that it was common for such gaiters to be fitted, but subsequent research has cast light on this. [oops]
Perhaps the only point of note is that I painted the undersides by spraying them white first, then masking off the stripes, and spraying the red.
I see the jet defenders are very popular dora subject. I had plans at one point to do all 4. Daywalker I have to say I like your blue 1 the best. Very nicely done. Something about it makes it seem very realistic.
The first dora pic trexx posted is work number 210051. In this pic 210051 is brand new showing no tactical numbers or unit ID and has only the factory applied standered camo. Since the first small run of dora’s were used for testing up to 210048, This is one of the first dora’s off the line. 210051 is the delivery standard for production from sorau. A little info on a very well known pic.
Thanks Stan! That compliment prompted me to put it on my bench right now to finish her up. In fact, I just finished re-attaching the L/G, cannon barrels, and antenna. Just have to put the ccanopy parts back on and a couple of tiny touch-ups and she’s finished. Hopefully, I can finish her up tonight yet! [:D]
