Shortage of Tamiya Acrylic Paint?

Just getting this out there not sure it there is really anything to it or not but, I was wondering why Hobbylinc has a lot of it out of stock. So, I went to internethobbies.com and they had an anouncment on their tamiya acrylic paint page of the shortage and a limit on your purchase to one bottle per color.

Hi, Tick -

My hobby shop guy says “it’s due to California and their tightening of shipping rules/reg’s.” His description, not mine. Maybe Tamiya distribution is hampered by haz mat considerations. What’s next, finish models with crayon’s?

Patrick

Hmmm…not sure about that one stopping other folks around the country from having them in stock. After all the lunatic’s that run the state of California ban a lot of things the rest of us are still able to get.

It is imported via California. That is where it all arrives so their regulations effect all of us.

Again… Nanny State of California. What a bunch of sticklers. What’s next? They say it causes deformations in unborn children?

Scalehobbyist has a good stock of Tamiya; very few backordered products. Patrick, where can I get those crayons?

You should try living here… I can’t wait to retire and leave next year.

The State of california is not run by lunatics. I live in the State and I’m very proud of the quality of life here. Yes, it’s very expensive, but it is a very successful State.

The reason that Internet Hobbies has stopped selling Tamiya paint is posted on their website. Tamiya has instituted a set-price policy, where retailers cannot discount Tamiya products.

We’ll miss you.

Good to know that info. I suppose the banner announcing a shortage was a lie then. Hmmmm… I better second guess doing business with them I suppose. Thanks for the info.

I heartily disagree with you about the management of California my friend, that’s why I’m leaving. Something that I never thought that I would do years ago. but we can speak of that via other channels per the rules of this site

Oh it’s ok I don’t need to try to convince you of anything. I have the highest respect for you.

On the subject of leaving because the boss is a lunatic, well…

I’m sure your reasons are more like mine would be. Warmer weather, proximity to the offspring, what the XO wants.

I’d hope to visit you in AZ my friend.

I‘ll pass. New York State is no better. Our nutty guy is talk8ng about legalizing pot. I get sick on the fumes from marijuana. I’m all for medicinal pot, but not recreational pot.

He also put a ban on plastic bags in supermarkets and stores. Now you have a choice - paper or plastic. If you want plastic, prepare to pay a 5 cents fee for EACH plastic bag. Geez, we’re getting taxed to death even more.

So, I feel your pain Carlos.[H]…

Just went and I think I read what you were talking about. It’s a post from May of 2018 and they are not stopping the sale of Tamiya paints they were simply letting folks know about the pricing and that Tamiya products would not get any discounted pricing because of Tamiya’s set pricing. so perhaps the shortage is real. I guess only time will tell.

Medicinal marijuana is a slippery slope. we had that for a dozen or so years before recreational marijuana was legalized by popular vote. (I still would like to know how state law can override a federal law in the legality of an item) Medicinal Weed was legalized for specific situations- cancer, glacoma, etc. Imget it and wont fight that- especially for the appetite aspect of folks undergoing chemo. Whatever works, use it. But… Within a short time period, scripts were being written for every generic complaint under the sun and moon. And now with recreational marijuana legalized, one can walk down the street smoking a joint perfectly legally, yet go to jail for doing the same thing drinking a beer. When I do my bike rides, I constantly smell it coming from passing cars, or from parked cars where users are “hot boxing”. Yet laws for enforcement, or technology for court conviction have not kept up. I’m sorry folks, both alcohol and marijuana alter the body’s senses affect one’s ability to drive. But hey, it’s not like more people are killed annually every year by traffic collisions, than by firearms…

We have that plastic bag tomfoolery here too. And now one must ask for a straw with your beverage (alcholoholic beverages excluded) in a restaurant. In the grand scheme of things these are first world problems. Annoying, but not really big deals.

But lets go to California‘s changes to criminal law. It’s catch and release now because so many felonies have been downgraded to misdemeanors. Repeat offenders can keep on offending. Can’t keep ‘em in jail or prison. Well, I can see the writing on the wall of heading back to the crime rates of the 70’s and 80’s that caused “three strikes“ to be introduced.

So to my once formerly beloved Golden State I will be saying “so long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, good bye… I bid adieu, to you, and you, and you!”. I’ll stop at the bridge over the Colorado River in Blythe, take off my watch, throw it on the ground and head elsewhere… cue up Steppenwolf (just kidding about the watch part)

BTW, this was not a rant, merely a point by point call out of some of the things degrading the quality of life for the average law abiding citizen of the state.

I hear the bench calling my name.

Hearing about all the crazy things going on out in California, Washington state and New York it lets me know how lucky I am to live in the great state of Indiana

That has got to be the funniest thing I have read, or will read, this month. [t$t]

Edit: I think if you are serious or if you are tongue-in-cheek it’s ok for me either way to consider it very funny, right?

I love it here in Indiana, we do have that one mayor from I think south bend? That’s been on tv alot here lately. If that’s what your think is funny I agree, but if you ignore him and a few others it’s a great place. It doesn’t have the beauty of back home in Tennessee but all the great hardworking people make up for it.

Well, not to derail this thread any further, has anybody noticed an actual shortage of Tamiya paints at any physical stores where they normally buy them? I haven’t seen it here. The inventory racks are well stocked locally.
