Hello, I was gifted the standard version of the Veryfire USS Atlanta in 1/350 scale. This version does not come with railings. Can you recommend a source of railings that would give me what I need to cover the deck and superstructure? I’ve never bought railings, looking for advise. Thanks in advance.
Tom’s Modelworks has several 1/350 scale PE railing sets.
Hi!
You were advised correctly. But, one thing to make it clear. Make sure you properly name the kit you are doing and it’s number! I find by doing this many selection by the employee are assured to be correct. I found for instance there Two, yep two! versions of rail and other stuff for the U.S.S.North Carolina.

Toms is my goto for PE. I have always been satisfied with their product and service.
Hi:
Since "Gold Medal Models " is no more, “Tom’s” is, and will be for a while My first choice!
Actually, most of the Gold Medal Models ship fittings are available through Squadron. That is still my go-to for ship railings, etc., because of the superior instructions.
Now,See!
I didn’t know that their stuff was available from anyone else. When Loren announced his retirement I didn’t know he parted with his patterns. When I do smaller ships I use available material that will look right, but aren’t necessarily rails to start with. Up to and including, Thinned, Sanded, Tichy Train Group, Suspended Steel Walkway gratings!
I have found with careful sanding and thinning they make great fittings for Helo Platforms and rails in all scales.because Tichy makes them in different sizes. Remember Guys and Ladies, when someone views a ship, they don’t know scale.they just know appearance!
Squadron only bought the ship PE artwork, existing ship stock, and the rights to the Gold Medal Models name. They didn’t buy the railroad stuff. Brandon of Squadron doesn’t know if it was picked up or by who.
Originally Squadron intended to use the same etchers as Loren Perry was using. However one of the principals of that company suffered a stroke and was not able to fill the orders for the longest time. In the last few weeks Brandon said that he had located an etcher and the products were being produced. It might take a while to get the whole catalog back. Contact Squadron.com and check on your specific needs.
You can also buy sheets of railings.

Hi Bill!
At our last Train Show here in New Braunfels,Tx. I was able to get four sheets of 1/350 generic railing from a vendor. I don’t know whence he got them but, you see I always am looking. T.B.
Squadron at the IPMS Nats has a wide selection of current GMM photoetch in several scales. There are some holes in their stock (no Fletcher , yes on the Gearing , generic rail and door sets). Above recommendation to check the Squadron website for specifics still stands.
Thanks Ed!
I asked the guy I bought them from. He said they were in a bunch of stuff he got from a closed, Brick and Mortar Hobby Shop inventory. He doesn’t know when he acquired them, but was glad I bought them, because he was getting tired of hauling them around in his small parts, Miscellanous display! P.S. I have enough of the generic now in 1/350 for at least five ships if I cut it and change it some. Radars too! He just didn’t want the stuff anymore! I already have twelve frets of ladders and such from 1/700 all the way to 1/96
