Ships of the German Flag GB 2020

Docidle, looking forward to seeing how the Schnellboot turns out with all that AM.

GM, looks like you have a little work ahead of you.

As sorta promised, here are the extra goodies and reference material I’ll be using.

The 3D stuff is from Shapeways seller IRON-Models. He has a great selection of Schnellboot stuff for the Revell 1/72 kit and the Italeria 1/35 kit. If you want to know what something is just ask, I’m not going to list themnow but I will when I install them.

Reference material:

And now the goodies:

Some great looking refrence there Steve. Love the torpedo.

Thanks Steve. One of the torpedos, just the aft end, actually fits into one of the loading tubes. So I figured it would be better to get two more torpedos for the after slings and with one supposedly already loaded.

Steve

Thanks GraySnake. It will be interesting to say the least! Check out the 3D stuff I just uploaded.

The detail of the 3D parts is just mind blowing. A while back I picked up a 3" deck gun and Oerlicons from Shapeways and I was amazed how well made the items were. I believe they say to use acrylics so not to get a reaction from the plastic.

I have a boat like your and the old Airfix high bridge one in the stash. The props look good. Were they expensive?

PJ, if they are the same props i used, i think they were about £20. I spent about 30 all up with the props and the gun shieled. And i have to agree, those were my first 3D parts and they were amazing. I took your advice and gave them a coat of future before priming and painting and 2 months later there has been no reaction.

The 3D printed really look nice. The detail on 3D parts has certainly come a long way from what it was just a few years ago.

Wow, I even wonder if I have a ship that is German.

PJ,

I remember the picture you sent me. I used a 1/144 4" and three 20mms for my Gato build. It opened my eyes to the possibilitlies of not using as much PE… rrrriiiggghhhttt. [*-)]

The total cost for the props came out to $33.00 for the smooth version. I might have gone with the the smoothest but I wanted to save $.50. Don’t ask.

Steve

It really has. I’ve purchased a number of parts from Micro Master on Shapeways but he has his own website now and I’ve purchased a load of parts for 1/350 ships. Check it out but beware, it’s addictive…

Dang Bill that looks cool! One of these days I’ll have to try a resin model. I’ve seen a 1/350 USS Ward on evilBay but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I’ll be following yourbuild closely.

How are you going to get that warp out of the hull though?! Boil it?

Steve

Now i can se your pics Steve. I had the same referance material, i hardly use the kagero bok, i found that pretty useless.

Nice collection of 3D stuff. Wish i had seen those smike generators and torpedo tube rear pieces, they look nice. What are the last 2.

Not sure what was going on with the pics but I’m glad you can see them now Bish.

Anyway, the second to last picture is the fuel hoses that attach behind the Bridge. They replace parts 81 in step 33.

The last picture is of the Targeting Computer parts 51 and 52 in step 21. I’m going to wire it up like you did since that was such a great idea and with the extra detailing on the 3D part, it just screams to me to add on detail.

Steve

GM and docidle, those both look like some incredibly fun builds!

There seems to be two threads for this German group build? Are we going to continue with two, or is there a prefered thread to use?

This is the one Bruce. Bish informed my posting on the wrong thread so I moved it over. I do answer there if someone posts but try to direct them here.

Whne i post at work it blocks certain images depending on the hosting site.

The Torpedo site, damn, wish i had spotted that. Would deffinetly have replaced what was in the kit. Look forward to seeing how that comes out.

Just wrapped up my 2 aircraft builds tonight and just about to start on the Type VIIc. I will be building U-552 in its early fit.

And for extras, i ahve a couple of sets from eduard. A PE set and resin 88mm deck gun.

A White Ensign set includes some PE parts and a template to correct some of the flood drain holes. And from Schatton-Modellbau a radio antenn and metal barrel for the 2cm Flak.

G-Factor propellers and another Schatton set, metal periscopes.

And finally, a wooden deck from Nautilus Models which includes resin hatches.

I also have some waterline decals and a fabric flag from AMP.

Wow mate, that’s going to look awesome.
