Hello
I’m new to model ship building and would like to know what would be the best book to buy. In particular the details into planking and hull making
Welcome to FSM Walkabout. Not being a ship builder, I really can’t answer your question but you may get more responses if you post this same question in the Ship Forum. Good luck and enjoy the forums.
Hi ya Walkabout …
Welcome to the FSM Community Modeling Forum(s) !!! [^]
I am glad that you stopped by … checked us out … and joined up. [8D]
If you will spend just a little time … here and there … reading this and that … and posting to one forum and then the next one … your choice … you will quickly find that we are a very diverse and very friendly group of scale modelers … from all over the world. [:D]
I for one … do not build ship models … but, as noted above … if you post your ship building question in the right forum … I feel certain that you will get some answers … good luck, give it a try, and good luck with your ship building !!! [8D]
Again, welcome to the best place on the 'net for scale modelers … have fun and come back often!!! [;)]
Walkabout,
Here’s probably (IMHO) the best book on getting started in wooden ship kit construction: Ship Modeling Simplified: Tips and Techniques for Model Construction from Kits by Frank Mastini. It also contains an English/Italian dictionary of terms to help you build those Amati or Mantua kits.
BTW, welcome to the club.

[:I]Some thing must be wrong with the site because I navigate to General Discussions->Welcome->Shipbuilding and enter my request. For some reason I end up in a different forum. Any ideads on what is going on?
Walkabout
Hi,
I can recomend Planking Techiques for Model Ship Builders by Donald Dressel and Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern by Milton Roth. What ship are you modelling at present? If you need any help, I have good model boat building experience.
Regards
Martin
Hi Martin
Thanks for the information. right now I’m just trying to understand the process of building a ship. I’m starting off with a clipper but hope to understand what tools and techniques it take to build these ships.
Thanks for the great tips[8D]
