Hoezit Hoezit
Does anybody hav pics of Shermans used by the SA armoured div. I would like 2 depict a Sherman of this div because it hits close 2 home if u know what i mean and it is something different. Surely some1 should know of our Shermans.
Thanx a lot I really appreciate it.
Keep well.
Funny thing you should mention that… Unfortunatly, I don’t have any pics, but my girlfriends gran used to drive SA tanks during WW2… Non combatant, ofcourse… Her great aunt manned, or actually womanned, an anti aircraft gun on Robben island…
Hi there
Thanx, but that doesnt really help me much. I could tell u that my grandfather was
captured 5 times and escaped 4 times but that doesnt help me much either but anyway thanx 4 that.
Keep well.
Sorry Artorius … I’m not going to be of much help here either. I’ve scratched through some of my references with no luck. Have you tried any Military Museums or Veteran Associations in you area? There are some military vehicle museums in S.A., I’m not sure if they would be able to help you at all.
Best of luck with the search.
Hi there
Thanx a lot 4 your effort Robert. I really appreciate the lenghs that u go 2, 2 help others. I was hoping I wouldnt hav to go that route but if u cant help then I dont think there will b many others. I do hav 1 pic in a book about our military but u cant really c much detail. Oh and while your here could u please tell wich Sherman(model) is the 1 with the (excuse the lack of knowledge) -I think- 3 piece hull - u know the 1 with the bolted seams.-
Thanx again 4 all the help.
Keep well.
I assume that you are referring to the 3 piece cover over the transmission … just about all Shermans had that at the beginning so it is fairly ackward to I.D. the tank accurately from just that. Can you scan the pic and send it to me by e-mail or even post it here … maybe I can figure it out from there.
Sorry I dont hav a scanner or anything else 2 take pics with. But what I can do is look through the pics i hav downloaded and will send u the 1 that looks the most similar.
Keep well.
Sounds good Artorius … the best thing to look at with the pic you have is the engine deck and the spacing between the road wheels. The engine deck (if visible) really tells the story of what Sherman you have in the pic.
Hi there
The e-mail should b there in a few moments.
Thanx a lot.
Keep well.
