Well guys… just when you think you’ve seen it all, [%-)] this pops up.
Yep, it’s in Iraq. …just goes to show how messed up that place is.
Now that there is a real one, I guess you could build one [(-D].
And here’s an interesting article:
file:///Users/appleg4/Desktop/Sherman%20restoration
if the link don’t work, go here about a Sherman restored by our guys while in Iraq.

How do you view the article?
Thanks, wonder how they got ahold of it in the first place? Left over stuff after the war sold to them by another country?
Who knows, [8] probably some kind of a third world training aid.
Steve
Un-freakin’-believable ! ! ! ! !
Could this be a photoshop’d pic??
It’s probably a M51 Super Sherman they were using those to simulate Panther tanks in the movie about the Battle of the Bulge.

Guys – this is nothing uncommon. You’ve mis identified an M36B1. It’s the 90mm gun turret from the M36 Tank destroyer mated onto the hull of an M4A3. It was called an M36B1. I’m pretty sure that Italeri even makes a model of this. That’s definitely not a panther turret folks.
Edit: Tank workshop makes a conversion

[%-)] Who knows. If it is, they went through a lot of effort [banghead] for what??
[(-D] Makes about as much sense as anything else I guess. (Didn’t know it was filmed in Irag he he.)
Thanks for the enlightenment Roy! Learn something new everyday I guess!

It’s not a photoshopped pic, it’s not an M51 Israeli Sherman. It’s an MAP M36B1, handed over to postwar allies.
Glad to help Jester
I wish it were something unusual but it’s not. I think some M36s were still being used in ex-Yugoslavia and even S Lebanon.

After checkin’ that address by golly, [:O] I DO believe you’re right!
Definitely an M36B1.
There are lots of old, western tanks in Iraq and the whole Middle East. Most of the Middle Eastern countries were British and French colonies until the late '50s. As such, they were given/sold surplus WWII western tanks and equipment. I saw all sorts of Shermans and Chieftans, etc. in Iraq. Some pretty neat stuff to come across over there.

i think that movie was “the big red one” they use chaffee’s and m48 in battle of the bulge
Wasn’t it M-47 that they used in the movie Battle of the Bulge as German Tanks?
