Sherman Firefly with Hedgecutter

Question for all you Shermophiles, did a Sherman Firefly ever get a hedgecutter attached? I have a couple of the fireflies and I’m thinking about adding a hedgecutter to one

I would never say never with Shermans, but I have never seen it. I don’t think you would risk such a scarce resource by sending it through a hedgerow first.

It’s possible. I’ve seen the hedgerow cutters on non-Shermans (M7 HMC Priests, Cromwell) and a few other British tanks (albeit rare). Off the top of my head, I don’t recall any Firefly VCs with them. But never say never is a good rule of thumb for sure when it comes to Shermanology. I’ll take a quick scan of my books when I get home

Not the most reliable source for a Firefly Vc with cutters. The article only deals with American Shermans, and the book that is quoted is about Operation Cobra. I would be very careful using a model for proof. I get that the guy claims he modelled a GGFG Sherman, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen them with a 30 caliber on the turret. Again, I won’t say never, but I would want more conclusive proof.

IIRC Bob Collignon modelled a VC Firefly with a hedge cutter a number of years ago (Great Scale Modeling 2001 p72-74). He attached a “boccage cutter” on the front, keeping in mind it’s a model so it’s not the gospel he is pretty knowledgable about these things. 23 books are listed as reference and 1000 personal photos so I’d say go for it and add the cutter, surely there was a few out there that had a cutter.

There is a picture on page 4 of the New Vanguard Sherman Firefly book that shows one with the cutters. Not only did I get this wrong, but the really embarrassing part is that I own the book, and missed it.[:$][:$]

If you do build it, please post some pics. There is no such thing as too many Fireflies.

So you couldn’t find a clean one for me then[:^)] Just kidding [whstl] I just need to decide which kit to build with the cutter, the Dragon or the Tasca. Fingers crossed I can start in a couple of weeks, just bare in mind a build can take me 2 months!
