shelves for 1:48

If you were building a cabnet for 1:48 WWII aircraft, what width would you make the shelves without making the cabinet ridiculously big?

Just a n idea. I peg boarded half of my work shop walls (1 side and the back end)and hang all my 1/48 WW2 aircraft there . Eliminates need for shelves. Have apprx 140 sq ft about half full. When i run out of room i’ll start giving the older ones away to the neighborhood kids.

Teise, I can’t picture what you are doing? Also, my question is, how long is the average WWII fighter (1:48 of course)?

Mine are 48" x 18". The middle shelf has 5 Mustangs and 4 Thunderbolts.

Gosh! Wish i could draw a picture on here. I just happened to measure a 1/48 Stormovik i built and its about 9 inches long. That is probably a good ball park figure.Maybe a little longer than average for a fighter. To the pegboard. The side wall of my workshop is 12 ft long and about 7 ft high and i pegboarded it from ceiling to floor, front to back. So i have 84 sq ft .Right? You can get these hooks just for pegboard at the hdwe store and put 2 in about an inch apart and hang your fighter by the tail or wings.Have i made myself clear as mud??

Wayne,

Is that cabinet custom made?
Its a great piece of furniture with an even greater purpose…

Yes, it is custom. I had it made when I was young and single. I had to remind my wife it was all mine when we got married. She had the wrong impression we would share.

I don’t mean to sound like a smart aleck here (well, maybe I do), but why not measure the kits you’ve built? If they’re still in the stash, tape the fuselage and wings together to give a rough estimate of the size. That will give you your minimum shelf size; the area where you eventually want to put the cabinet, combined with your sense or proportions and wallet, should govern your maximum shelf size.

I have a 48" long wire shelf that fits 5 imex clear acrylic case (about 10" in width) . Each case has 2 fighter aircraft in it (only fits one modern or 2 WW2 or 3 WWI) at a 45 degree angle.
So in answer to your question: a 48" x 11 " shelf will fit at least 10 WW2 fighters

you’re not a smart aleck, just not appreciated. We try to help each other here, not be jerks. Thanks ck. I can’t even number the many stupid comments I have responded to that the answer was right in front. I was trying to get peoples opinions. Last time for that.
