semi-gloss to flat

curious as to what techniques you prefer for flattening semi-gloss paint to flat?

could I just mix mr. color flat superclear with the paint?

I also read people mix a flat coat with future to dull the paint out.

I’d hate to get the paint thrown on in semi-gloss just to learn that it’s stuck that way. lol

suggestions?

If your semi-gloss is an acrylic, you could mix Tamiya X21 Flat Base into it. X21 Flat Base is a white “goo” that turns gloss (and naturally semi-gloss) acrylics flat.

I’ve never tried mixing a flat clear with paint to see how it would look, but I doubt that it would work. If you have flat clear, spray it over the semi-gloss coat to flatten it.

Kind of. I mix Tamiya X21 Flat Base with Future at a ratio of 1 part Flat Base to 4 parts Future which yields a nice flat clear coat.

thanks for the tip abarne, I use tamiya and mr. hobby paints. I’ll probably spray it with the 1:4 flat to future mix and hit it after done painting.
