Searching for the USS Utah....

Greetings—I wonder if anyone knows of the availability (or lack thereof) of a model of the USS Utah. It was a battleship, Florida Class, decommissioned to a Target Ship in the 1930’s, and was capsized and sunk at Pearl Harbor on 7 December 1941. I’m particularly interested because my father was a survivor. I have been unable to find a kit anywhere, and with all due respect to the USS Arizona, I really feel that other vessels involved that day really deserve fair recognition as well. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

No one to my knowledge does Utah in any of her configurations at present. I wouldn’t put it past Iron Shipwrights to release one sometime in the future, as it appears they are doing most of the Pearl Harbor battleline and a few others as well.

Sorry I couldn’t offer more help…especially for a survivor. Those are the ‘special’ builds that stay with you forever.

Best Regards,

Jeff

Thank you for your help. Fifty-eight men died on the Utah at Pearl Harbor (the website makes the curious distinction “52 men and 6 officers”, as if officers were somehow a different species)–it is likely my father survived only because he overslept that morning and was still in his bunk when the strafing began. I’ve never really understood why a kit has never been available–at least in its battleship configuration. I shall keep an eye out for it. Here is an interesting website:
