SE Michigan Z car enthusiast. Starting up again

I was an avid model builder growing up into my teen years. I would build virtually anything. It got away from me with work, family, and travel. Now as I approach retirement, I’ve decided to jump back in. As a Datsun/Nissan Z car enthusiast; I owned a 240Z in college and a 280ZX when I was first married, I decided to focus on Z cars. A few years ago I began grabbing every Z car model kit I could find. I now have nearly 75, some duplicates, but many unique versions. The plan is to build one stock version of each model and the variations over the years. And, then re-create the multiple racing versions of the Z. Some are available in kits, but many will require some modifying and scratch building from existing kits (the reason for the duplicates). I have thoroughly enjoyed all the research in ferreting out all the variations, reading the history, and acquiring shop manuals, etc. Now it’s time to start building. I was a subscriber to FSM when younger and learned a lot and am looking forward to learning more from all the great modelers on this forum. With all the detail up kits, photo-etched, resin, and printed parts available it should be a lot of fun. I’ve even taken the time to learn Inkscape so I can print custom parts.

Welcome to the FSM forum and back to scale modeling. I really like your project that you’re undertaking and the Datsun 240 Z has always been a favorite sports car of mine. Good luck with this project.

Welcome, a lot of good stuff here. I owned a 280Z in my youth. Great car, couldn’t beat the straight 6. I also live the SE Oakland county.

Welcome to the forums Flows! And welcome back to the hobby. Sounds like you have a grand plan, and I can’t wait to see your Z cars! Back in High School, a close friend of mine had a ZX, it was a blast to ride around in!

Welcome! Buddy had a 240z in high school. Another friend and I would do rock paper scissors to see who had to get in the ‘back’ At 6’ and 6’2 that was no small undertaking.

Welcome Flows! I’m new here too, (need to do my own intro)! Love your interest! Big Z guy also. Have a Z32 and Z33. Best of luck with your modelling. Will be checking in to see what you’re working on!
