SdKfz250 Detail Help Please

Hey folks

I’m doing a Dragon SdKfz250/10 for the Small AFV GB. Anybody wants to know how good I think this kit is, see my posts on page 10 over there [:)]

Questions: (model will be finished grey/whitewash so the period is Russia, Early)

  1. Crew. My guess 3 for the gun plus a driver, or did the driver double as the ammo number?

  2. Rifle Stowage. Standard 250’s had a rack for 4, as does the kit, but if the crew is Driver + 2 + Cmndr, should I only have 3 rifles in the /10?

  3. SMG. I think I have sen a pic somewhere of a 250/? with an SMG in a rack high up on the RHS, well forward almost underneath the ‘roof’? It might have been a 251, can’t remember. Can you?

  4. Ammo Stowage. Was the 37mm ammo kept in the ‘cupboard’ over the fuel tank that std 250’s kept the Mg34 ammo in, or was the arrangement different?

This was gonna be a quick build, mostly a painting exercise - I just can’t help myself [:(]

Answers, hopefully correct. [:D]

  1. 4 - Driver,gunner, commander, loader.

  2. I would use the standard rack but with three rifles.

  3. YES. it was mounted barrel front on the right wall beside the commander’s seat just below the spare vision blocks.

  4. Not sure but that is where the ammo was stowed in the SdKfz 250/9 (20mm).

TY cm68 - your answers must be right, cause they’re the same as mine! [:D]

  1. As far as i know, that is where they stored the rear mounted MG for travel. Spare barrels got kept there, too.

4.Same as above, but that is where they stored the mortar rounds for the 250/7, too.

Matt

Hey Matt,

The AA '34 was stowed farther back, pretty much opposite the bench seat, the MP was stowed way forward, actually lower than I thought . The pic I remembered was from afvinteriors, here’s the link http://afvinteriors.hobbyvista.com/250/250-21.jpg

Cheers, Andy.
