Got this one all finished up just in time for the football games to start today and begin work on the Sdkfz C 3-in-1 251/7 (decided to tackle the smaller 250/10 as a warmup). Built OOB with the exception of the PaK barrel, I filched it from the 251 C 3-in-1 kit since I’m not building the /10 version of that one, I was happy to employ the aluminum barrel elsewhere and the mount construction is 100% identiacal, so zero issues with this minor bit of kitbashing.
Basecoat is MM enamel Panzer Schwarzgray over the light gray plastic, no primer/pre-shading was applied as it has a tendency to overly darken the gray IMHO. Drybrushed lightly some MM Steel around edges and hatches, then used MMP Earth Dirt in water to apply the weathering, followed up with a #6 round sable brush to blend it all in. Decals were also weatherd up with some drybrushing of the Schwarzgrau to lend a faded/blended look.
“My, what knockers!” “Why thank you, Herr Doktor.” [:0]
Very nice job there wbill76. Do you get the option for the different gun shields or just that one? Makes me want to build one. Once again, a great looking “Door Knocker”!
Thanks for the compliments! The kit only gives you the one gunshield option. I wasn’t aware there were other types used (the /10 wasn’t widely used according to Dragon’s little blurb in the instruction sheet) so didn’t dig very deep on it, just used the kit parts. It’s a fun build, but I was surprised by how small it actually was. About the same size as a 232 scout car…
bill… great job. always had a soft spot for those german halftracks. like that german grey and the weathering. I have the 3-in-1 and am going to do the Pak37 version. You just gave me some inspiration. [;)]
Well, I was beginning to think you were falling down on the job, no new build in a week or so. [;)] She looks like she had just been cruising across the steppes of Russia probing for trouble. As always, a very nice build. Looking forward to your 251. I think I need to run out and grab the D version myself.
Bill, It came out really great. I see you went with the painted grilles. I’ll do the same with the 250/11 (got the tracks on yesterday, now in the construction home stretch). Pete
The 3-in-1 /10 model comes with an aluminum barrel and brass rounds, very nice IMHO. So nice I stole it and mounted it here on the 250! [:D] I’ve started work on the 251/7 variant and so far am very impressed with the detail and molding, not to mention all the extra goodies it comes with, including Pioneertruppen figures.
Tigerman,
I’ve got the D on order with GM, was listed In Stock when I placed the order, now has a Reissue/Searching For status, so be warned. [:D] Since I’m now back to building on the weekends, the pace of finished models ought to be somewhat diminished, although I must admit the NFL playoffs certainly provide excellent building time opportunities. [:D]
Pmm,
It was very hard to find any photo evidence for the grills, painted or otherwise, so I went ahead and painted them the hull color. Because the hull is empty behind it, in RL it still retains that depth appearance you’d expect but the lighting in the photo washes that out a little.
