Sd.kfz. 222 vignete research

Hi everybody,
I´m preparing for a new project, a Sd.Kfz.222 in 1/35 vignete. I´m not yet decided the timeline exactly but after some posts in another forum I came up with the following two options: 1) Sd.Kfz.222 with the #35044 SS recon crew set from Alpine Miniatures ( Oct 44 - Unit “Goetz v Berlichingen” -Normandy) and 2) the Sd.kfz.222 with th #35038 Winter panzer crew set from Alpine (Ardennes Offensive or Hungary Jan 45). I´m interested to find which of these two figure sets are best suited as crew for the ´222 at the given eras and after that maybe some details (if anybody knows) about the vehicle itself (Unit-Markings-Camo). I appreciate any help given, thanks in advance,

Regards, Anastasios.

I don’t know about everyone else, but I answer questions here, not research and write term papers. I’m not trying to be rude, but it would help us if you could post images of the figures in question, instead of making us search through dozens of pages looking for images of them in order to judge their appropriateness for your situation. Most people are not going to be familiar with the entire line-up of Alpine figures and want to take the time to research which Waffen SS units still had SdKfz 222s in their inventories in 1945, their paint schemes, markings, histories, etc. This is a lot of work to ask of someone’s free time.

The sets look like they would fit the time frames you want.

I looked in my books about the Ardennes and Hungary battles but didn’t see any 222s. There were mostly pictures of 234 series ACs. The Encyclopedia of German Tanks says they stopped making 222s in June of 1943 so maybe they were scarce by the middle of 1944 and after. Try Google images and see if anything comes up.

I agree with tankjunkey. The 234 series (ARC Series) was introduced late 44, early 45. I know that the 12 SS Pz.div recon units switched to these around that time; right before they went to Hungary. I really can’t say for other units.

I wouldn’t put “tankers” in a recon vehicle. I would go for the “recon” set.

Thanks a lot guys, I think I will settle with the Normandie version and the recon set. If anyone has pics of the ´222 serving at a SS unit in Normandie or paint scheme and marking tips, I would be oblidged to you for ever. Once again thanks for your precious help.

Anastasios.
