Dear All,
The LHS had this kit on a 30 % discount and I wanted to get some experience on the 38(t).
So here I am [:P]
I dont want to spend a lot of money in what seems to be a kit inferior to the DML or Tristar offerings but after having had a first look at the 20mm gun I think I will replace that straight off with Tristar2cm FlaK 38 mit Sd.Ah.51 (kit #35010).
The shields are just to crude.
But that sums up to 4 BigMacs for the Italeri kit and 2 BigMacs for the 20mm gun.
Can anyone offer a better suggestion keeping in mind that I have allready spent 4 BigMacs for the main kit?
Before it is over you will probably have spent more than what you could have gotten the excellent Tristar or good DML kit for…sounds like after buying the Tristar 20mm, you may have already reached that point…no point trying to save money on a dog of a kit then sinking big $$$ into it with AM parts, if money is the issue, IMO…
I agree with Manny, but if your math adds up right, that is only $18 US for the 6 big macs. How much are they where you are? If you got all that for only $18, than that seems like a good deal.
Dear all,
Thanks for your kind advice.
I think the summary is that it should be OOB [dinner].
I paid 240 Swedish Kronor which is equivalent to 4 BigMac meals, sorry about confusing you there…I know now that the base unit of measure is the burger only[:I]
240 Swedish Kronor = 40 US dollars.
I will try to sand down the Gun Shields until I start loosing detail.
I started off with the ambition to details the drivers appartment but I will drop that since detail can only be seen through the drivers hatch which is very limited in terms of visibility.
Basic details only in other words.
I lost the starboard intake grills during clean up of flash and will have to replace them with something, probably mesh supposed for the spent shell collector.
The gun itself looks OK’ish, so does the rest of the kit with link and length tracks.
I will post progress pics tomorrow when I am of the company firewall which rules out photobucket.
Sry guys no pics yet, but more questions…
The Gun Shields on the Italeri are significantly narrower then the Shields provided for the the dragon stand alone #6288 and the Tristar 20 mm provided with the AFV # 35118.
Is this correct?
Edited, sorry Bill!
This picture from the Ostpanzer Forum actualy proves Italeri to be right in narrowing the shield.
Sorry, I should have noticed this myself.
In terms of the splinter shield dimensions for th Flak 38, DML and Tristar have it right for a “standard” Flak 38. Most of the Flakpanzer 38 crews removed the shields to allow for more room in the fighting compartment, the few “in action” shots show this although there are also some as you’ve shown in your post that also have it fitted.
Allthough I have said OOB I just happen to have one set of shields over from the Dragon kit which has a very nice Brass set in adition to a well engineered styrene one.
I thought I swap Italeri’s set for Dragons styrene set and this was when I noticed the difference in width.
Your comment about removing the shields beeing the prefeered field option opens up a new possibility.
