Sculpey

I have a question about baking Sculpey.

What should Sculpey feel like after you bake it?

Hard like kiln baked clay or kinda rubbery?

I baked a 2x3 piece 1/4 of an inch thick for an hour and it still didn’t harden. Its kinda flexible but definitely not sandable.

It’s suppose to be slow baked so that it is hard when cured. Unfortunately, I’ve found that no matter what temperature, what amount of time baked, or how thin or thick the finished piece is kept, it tends to crack over time. Armature or not.

I use it to make masters to form molds, and cast the finished pieces (usually figures in my case) in resin or white metal, but do not use it for the finished piece because of this fugitive nature.

Use an epoxy based putty if you want durability.

Thanks for the info Mike.

The item I baked did harden overnight. Hoping that it doesn’t crack!

I suppose I will use up the Sculpy bar I have and then buy some Apoxy, MagicSculp, Milliput, etc.

Unfortunately these tend to be more expensive and less available locally.
