Scratch Satellite (my first, request feedback)

Hello All,

(I can’t figure how to attach the image file, can anyone help?)

I’ve finally finished my first scale satellite model I build from scratch. I only had pictures of the internet to work from so I don’t know the actuall size of this thing. I did a search on Google and found a really cool military communciations satellite called: Wideband Gapfiller Satellite.
Please take a look and provide constructive feedback.
I used an old ham bake wrap from my wifes cooking for the gold foil, regular aluminium foil, styrene for the antennas, and a balsa wood frame. The decals were made from brochure paper and I created the design with PowerPoint and attached them with rubber cement to the wings.
Thanks for your time,
Mark Fannin

Can’t wait to see the finished model!

Hi ,

Yes, I too would like to see it.

I also make satellite (amongst other real space) models. My major place for inspiration is http://www.ninfinger.org/~sven/models/papermodels.html . You will quickly notice that this is a site for paper models. But I find that once all the pages are printed out it serves as an excellent template for constructing a satellite out of styrene etc… Making up a paper one also serves to show where things go and how they should fit together.
Most of the sites for these models also list a scale as a help. Hope this helps and good luck
