SCRATCH BUILT STEAM CRANE BARGE

Hello all, This is my first post so I hope my photos will upload. This project took about 375 hours to complete. It is based on crane barges that plied harbor waters around the turn of the century.

Very nice!

Beautiful!

It is an inspiration. I used to have some photos I took of a barge built and used by a local construction company in Upper Michigan. It used a small IC. I took the pics to someday build a model of it and never got around to it. Your build inspires me to have a go at it.

Wonderful project and excellent workmanship. Any estimation on the scale?

Thank you for the kind words everyone. Greg, the scale is 1:48 I use this scale most of the time. I occasionally use 3/8"=1’ , I have other scratch built models that I’ll post soon.

Very crisp build there!

Insert happy dance!!! [t$t]

Really nice work!!! Detail is amazing! And please do post other pics.

Oh wow, that is really nice work there!

That is so cool! Is that a can of Testors cement on the shelf? If so… How many cans did you go through to build it?

Looks great! Did you cut those gears yourself?

The Testors decal came from an old sheet of car decals I had stashed away. The gears are left over from the steam engines. The steam engines and the hoists came from a little company in Pawtucket, R.I. called, Crow River Products. They sell cast pewter kits of very good quality.

I also built a shipyard diorama for my barge:

Thanks. The whole model looks great!
