hello I am new to this forum and magazine and have been away from modeling for a few yeears now.
this seems to be a ‘kit’ forum but I am scratch building a ww11 battleship progress pictures can be found on my site at http://weshallremember.homestead.com/MODEL.html
It is the HMS PRINCE OF WALES a King GeorgeV class battleship 1939 sunk after 8 months service against bismarck and the malay japanes airforce - took 85 planes and 1 1/2 hours to do it though - any interest and tips here for this type of building?

[#welcome] Don! Speaking for myself, I love to see scratchbuilding done and would appreciate seeing pics of your progress posted here. I am interested. Unfortunately, I’m only a spectator when it comes to scratchbuilding since my skills aren’t developed enough. However, this Forum is filled with incredibly knowledgeable shipbuilders who can give lots of very helpful tips. Getting them to post though can be difficult! [:-^][:D]

I have never been ‘into figures’ but am wondering after seeing models with such ondeck are 1/200th scale british naval figures available??

The ship looks good so far.
I would consider looking into some casting materials.
So when you build a turret, you can get it perfect and then cover it silicone rubber, and create a mold so that you can duplicate it without building every one and every detail individually.
The same goes for doors and hatches and other details that will be required in multiple instances.
Molding would also allow you to scavange parts from other models of the same scale, and use those details on your project.
Keep us up to date on the progress.

Plastruct.com may offer some 1/200 scale “architectural” figures.
Also, N or Z scale railroad figures may be usable.

We did a couple quickie tutorials on mold making and casting a while back.
I am no sure what is available in your area, but you should be able to find similar products to what we use.
I’ve scratchbuilt a few ships in my day, although my last few projects have been kits.
I currently have a 1/200 scale IJN Takao I’m scratchbuilding, and a 1/200 Fuso that I’ve started gathering materials for. Both kits will use alot of components from the Nichimo destroyers and Yamato kits, hence the choice of 1/200 as the scale. They will also sit nicely with my already built Shiranui and upcoming Yamato. I’ve also considered a 1/200 Shinano using the Nichimo hull as a starting point.

Looks very impressive so far!
I’ve scratchbuilt one WW2 warship so far, a 1/200 Royal Navy Tribal-class destroyer (painted as HMS
Cossack). I’ve always been intending to do more in the future, but have never got round to it!
I’ll probably take some photos of it at the same time as the Vosper MTB.
There is a club in Australia, Taskforce 72, that scratch build WW2,also before and after, warships. They have a web site but I’m not sure of the address but hit Google with Taskforce 72 and you should get an answer.
I think there is also a TF72 club opperating in the UK.
While I’m not building anything big at the moment i am building a 1/72 scale Puffer and when a contemplated house move is completed in about 12mths time I will start on a 1/72 German WW1 Battleship. (also a garden railway!!).
