Scratch build Aeronca LC 1/12 scale

Hello everyone, if I can figure out how to do it, I will show some pictures of a project that I recently started working on again after languishing for many years. I posted something regarding the dilemma I’m having trying to replicate the engine for this with the hopes of someone with the resources to help me with having one 3D printed from an edited photo image that I have.

Thanks very much. I built it the way I’m used to building flying models, just heavier seeing as though it won’t be flying. It spans 36" to give an idea of the size. I’ll be covering it with a light iron on film and hoping to paint over that following recommendations others have used. I may not be adding the amount of detail most on this forum would, I’ll just have to see how it goes as long as my patience holds out. I’m using aluminum from soft drink cans to form all the metal cowlings as well as the landing gear fairings. I haven’t figured out how to make the round engine cowling yet, just another hurdle. Thank you for the interest.

Very nice job.. Delightful airplane. Paul Matt drawing. If its a LC you want the 5 cylinder Warner Scarab jr. Earlier L models had the LeBlond/KenRoyce 5 cyl engines.
I designed and printed the Warner Super Scarab 145/165 engine which would be the 7 cylinder version for the Cessna C37. might be able to design the 5 cyl but dont have drawings.
Built a LC1/10 scale in 1976-78. Engine was wood and cowling made of laminating wood veneer edging around a wooden disk and spinning it with a drill and some sandpaper . Probably better methods now.
Still hanging in my workshop.
I will do some digging.

Jim, you did a nice job on your LC, I’m hoping for the same kind of results. The Paul Matt drawing is what I’m going by, but just comparing certain things on the drawing to pictures, I still found many things to not be the same, I’m just trying to minimize those differences to where it won’t jump out at you without having to do some major changes. I actually have toyed with the thought of measuring one of the full scale survivors if it was close by to get it right, but I’m not going to those extremes. The cylinders on the 5cyl Scarab Jr seem to be the same as on the 7cyl 125hp Scarab. For my purposes the 145 would probably work just fine. I’m finding out as I go that it’s not all that easy of an airplane to replicate, but I guess that’s what makes it so unique. Thanks for the response
