Scrambled Fighter

I haven’t done a good kitbash in a while, so here it is.[:D] See how many different aircraft parts you can find on this one. I had started this once before, but robbed from it to start my Dreamstar. Since I lack the motivation to go forward on the Dreamstar, this one is back on and will be my back up model to work on during those times when I’ve run out of ideas for my Hogzilla, like now.[swg]

Eddie

Fusalage is an F-18

Wings are from F-101 voodoo and possibly a sea fury also.

Tail planes ( horizontal stablizers) are from an F-5

Vertical stablizers appear to be from an F-15 ( also possibly from either an F-22, F-18 and/or F-14)

And that funky thing on top is from an F-16

How’d I do Eddie? hehehehe

Air Master

Very close[:D] The things you missed were the vertical stabs (F-16 main wings), main wings are F-15s cut and reversed, with Hornet elevons for tips and F-104 engine housing for the 3rd engine. Good eye![8D]

Eddie

Eddie, I used to be pretty good at aircraft reconition from my time working for Dalmo Victor ( now part of Litton Industries ) in the 80’s. They built avionics systems, I was a materials handler ( stores clerk ). I got to see all this cool stuff they used to test thier proto types with including full mock ups of the actual planes. The biggest contracts they had were with the Air Force and a few Navy contracts. I had a blast working for them til the Ruskies tore down the Berlin Wall and I got laid off. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

Air Master

That thing looks almost like a BSG Viper on steroids. [(-D]

Man, and thought my putting a spare set of 109 wings on a spare B-534 fuselage was radical! LOL

Looks cool, though. Differant and unique is always a good thing in my book.

Dude, you have got to be an engineer with this many ideas and methods of execution!

Nope. Just a jack of all trades, master at none.[:)] I just try to build what I “see” in my head.

That things gotta have fly-by-wire. I don’t see any other way for that thing to go without them other than becoming the worlds fastest land vehicle. Waddaya call it? The F-something Resurrected Boneyard is my suggestion

Alright, a bit of an update. I’ve extended the intake for the 3rd engine by using more of the F-104 fuselage and some bits from the KC-135 I had left over from the KC/B-17 build. The new twist is that this project has gone international. I’ve removed the nose for futher construction by John Howling Mouse in Canada and when I’ve done with the aft section, JHM and I will send our parts to Simon R. in Belgium for final assembly and paint.[:D]

Eddie

I don’t know how you’d do it, but it may be kind of cool to rig it with a downward- firing ejector seat. I could see problems with that upper intake and an upward-firing bail-out seat.

You’d just need to roll it upside down before you eject. [;)]

Very very awesome. It looks totally impractical- I love it! [:D]

Thank you![:D][8D]

The way my twisted mind sees it, the canopy would FOD out the 3rd engine and yer out of there[swg][(-D]. Excellent observation and as a matter of fact, I’m going to see if a telescoping rod can be added to the back of the seat to cover my rear end. Back to realilty, I’ve seen a couple of ejections on the Ranger and I don’t think an intake were it is could stop the seat from clearing a person from the aircraft. It is incredible to see in real time how fast and far those seats will go.[:)]

Eddie

And I quote myself

“Wooooo”

I think that it would be really cool if you could cruve the wings down.

With rocket powered ejection seats, there will be no problem for the pilot getting out. A standard cartridge sends the seat up the rail and at six feet the lanyard is pulled, firing the rocket. Initial blast sends the seat and pilot out at 1200 FPS, in theory. Actual speed is less than half due to forward speed and wind forces. Still, the pilot is leaving the aircraft at a high rate of speed. He will be leaving the aircraft with enough speed to keep from getting sucked down the big vacuum cleaner located behind the cockpit.

As for how high the seat goes depends on the altitude of the aircraft at time of ejection. At very low altitude the seat will travel over 1,000 feet before the drogue chute fires pulling the pilot out of the seat.

*shaking head…

Eddie, you evil genius, you…

I’m looking forward to seeing the Dreamstar. Great book!

Jon

You’re like Burt Rutan, Eddie; Never know what to expect to see rolling out of your hangar next, but whatever it’s called, we know it’s going to be HOT! [tup] [:)]

Thank you for being inspired once again… I always look forward to it!

Take care,

Frank

Just awesome Eddie[tup][tup] Can see this as the future JSF[}:)]
Now I know you don’t sleep with such [:-,][}:)] ideas rollin’ around in your head[;)]

Now that can’t feel good! I mean, your being blasted into the air as fast a .22 bullet travels [xx(]

Eddie, that is a great looking build! You didn’t tear apart the Blue Angel Super Hornet for it did you?

Actually…

Why not turn the wingtips down a bit? I have no idea what it would do to performance, or what purpose they would serve, but it would certianly “fit” with the overall feel of the aircraft. That’d look totally awesome!

If not, so be it. It is your build, after all!

Hey Eddie,

Check out a japanese anime called “Yukikaze” the bird in that short series has alot in common with your Chimera.

Thank you to Everyone for the kind words and suggestions. It really means a lot to hear the positive comments about this any of my other creations.[:D][8D]

Eizzle,

The Super Hornet Blue Angel is safe and sound. That is one of my favorites in my fleet. I’ve been stocking up on the B.A. Hornets from Walmart. Every few months they bring in 3 or 4 and I snap them up at $11 a piece. Can’t beat it for the things I do to them.[swg][(-D]

Lucien,

I do have a Dreamstar project on hold that I’m going to shape the wings (or try to[:D]) as you suggested. This one was just a little something that I drempt up to be an easy slam together that has grown in scope recently. I was just going to paint the inside of the canopy blue and be done with it, when JHM offered to do a detailed cockpit for me. How could I refuse? Final assembly and paint being done in Belgium. I’m pretty excited to see how this one comes out. As soon as I ship off these parts, I’ll be getting back to the Hogzilla and I’ve dug out the F-15/106 hybrid.
