I’ve read where people recommend two pairs of scissors, one specifically for decals, the other for general cutting. My question is there any recommendations for specific brands or types of scissors that would best be suited for each type of job?
I have several pairs of scissors from small to large but I keep a pair of IRIS SCISSORS in a poly bag on my bench and they’re only used for decals. If you can buy for a science lab place they’re reasonably priced - if bought from a surgical instrument supplier they’re extremely expensive. They work great.
I have a set of surgical scissors used them for 25 years or more now, never sharpened them and they are still sharp enough for any job. Last year I picked up a set of Castroviejo scissors just for decals have a look at http://www.micromark.com/castroviejo-straight-jaw-scissor,9402.html for them
I had to have some stitches removed a couple of years ago. The nurse used a really neat, sharp little pair of scissors to cut the stitches. When I remarked how neat they were, she said they were disposable- they had to throw them out after using them once. She cleaned them up and gave them to me.
I know a thread a few years ago on those “suture scissors” someone did a search for them and they were reasonable. I have used mine for three or four years and they are standing up well. They have very short curved blades, VERY good for cutting threads when rigging ships or WW1 aircraft.
Got mine in the scrapbooking section at Hobby Lobby. Designed for precise cutting of paper (in our case…decals). 40% off.
These are going into “lock-up”. My last pair disappeared off my desk, crud, I didn’t even get to use them!!! NOBODY knows anything about them. “We didn’t even know you had them, dont’ know what you are talking about” they claim.
O so “I don’t know” and “Not me” lives at your house too! they’re always taking stuff off of my work bench and NEVER PUTTING IT BACK!! My biggest pet peeve![8o|] I now have a small tool box that I put all my special modeling tools. tape, brushes etc in and lock it before I leave for work or go to bed.
