Does anyone know if you can buy AM the tires and wheels they used in Africa on the Schwimmwagen? Your help is appreciated. I searched the forum and couldn’t find any threads on the Schwimmwagen. I built one of these long ago, but my first wife stepped on it when we spit. In fact she stepped on all my finished models when we split. Some I had even won awards with. But I digress, I would like to make a dio with this and perhaps a PzIV or III. We shall see. If the tires and wheels are not available, where could one find specs on scratch building them. That would give me an excuse to try out my resin casting stuff.
At least you have the perfect excuse to be building again…[:D] I have this image of a Godzilla-like scene playing out in my mind as your beloved tanks are crushed underfoot for some reason… [:o)]
this is a bit off topic, but are you married now?
because it reminds me of the blues song “My Next Ex-Wife”
(she wants half of the half of the half I’ve got left . . .)
sorry.
nothing on the schwimmwagen, but i will keep my eyes open.
i take that back!
at www.gretmodels.com, search “1/35 schwim”
a wheel/tire set from adv/azimut comes up.
not sure if it is the one you seek.
MR models also shows ‘wheels’ as a future release.
Yeah, I saw most of those things at Hometown Hobbies. I may have to make them. I have that book by squadron, has really good details. We shall see.
Ted
BTW, yes I am on wife #3. turning 30 caused me to quit doing the things that makes wives really really really mad!! Now I am settled don w/ a house, 2 vehicles, and a wonderful son. Life is good.
A long time ago Verlinden made the ballon tires in resin for the Kubelwagen and Schwimmwagen. I made a Kubelwagen with them once. Your best bet would be to find someone that has the Afrika Kubelwagen (Tamiya, DML or Hasegawa) and swap tires.
I just checked at Model Mecca and they list a set of tires by Jaguar, but they don’t show a photo, it only says “wide wheels”. Sorry I can’t be any more help than that.
the wide wheels are like the old tamiya kit came with, ive a set of them for my schwimmwagen, your best bet would be to do what Rods said, just buy the Africa Kubelwagen and swap the wheels, it will end up being cheaper and you’ll have two great kits
Ya know. I think I had a case of brain flatulance. Who would need a Schwimmwagen in the desert anyway? After looking at that book again I relized that I was thinking Kubelwagen and typed Schwimmwagen (That was the one my ex stomped - she hated model!). Regardless, I will build the schwimmwagen anyway and later I will do a kubelwagen.
Thanks for all the great advice. All of you are the best.
