Schwerin West overview 9/23/05

Lt. Josef Jacobs’ Dr.I

Hey Erica,
Nice production line you have there…!!! Things are really taking shape now. So far my fav is Lt. Von Frostein’s Dr.1.
Thanks fer sharing my friend.

Van is also Dutch, like Anthony Fokker himself… [:D]
i have been painting & decaling on the sprue 4 this project mainly so
that i don’t get the pieces all mixed up. but i usually do a sprayed rattlecan
basecoat w/ the parts on the sprue, then pick out details w/ a brush…
i use a combination of xuron cutters & very sharp x-acto blades when i cut
the parts off the sprues, then clean & touchup as necessary…
RadMax:
this is the first time i’ve tried applying decals on the sprues,
it has actually worked out ok 4 the most part…
my only mistake was in decalling the national markings & stripes
on Lt. Baumer’s a/c b4 i painted the streaky green camo effect on the wings
& fuselage, it would have been easier the other way around.
¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡Way to go Frosty!!!
U r doing a nice job. I also paints lots of parts on the sprues, spetially small ones (tires, landing gear legs and others) Even the fuse cockpit interior and that makes the job easier for me .
update:
all 3 fuselages & horizontal tailplanes have been drilled out 4 the
tailplane rigging, & the lifting hooks have been added 2 the fuselage
undersides as well…
the Von Frostein & Jacobs a/c r just about ready 4 final assembly.
Lt. Baumer’s a/c has been a bit of a bear, 4 some strange reason…
i haven’t been able 2 get the position of the white surrounds 4 the
iron crosses in the rite place, & i have one source w/ the streaky
green camo over cdl & the other source w/ it over lite blue !
i’ll probably go w/ the cdl since that’s what’s on there already,
but i haven’t tried the blue underneath yet, so i’m tempted 2 see
what that looks like in 3D…
decisions, decisions !
well, folks, here’s the latest report from Schwerin West:
Lt. Baumer’s a/c now in streaky green camo over clear doped linen
& the lifting surface between the wheels has been done in the same
finish also… u can see the decals 4 the stripes on the fuselage side &
the deck behind the cockpit still on the carrier sheet there also…
lots of little paint touch-ups ahead this weekend on all 3 a/c.
i will install the lower & middle wings & add the interplane struts
& spandau mgs 2 this & then all 3 a/c will b at just about the same
stage of completion.[:D]
