The only info I could find quickly, I’ll try to find more and post later, is that they were 45 Tiger II strong in Oct 44 after being destroyed and reorganized from the East. The only three pictures of 506 IIs I have are not to helpful, one hit hard enough that most the Zimmerit is off with the markings, one captured and covered with US flags and the last camoflaged in an orchard. The one marking visible is on #2+11. The numbers look red bordered with white with the 2 and 11 separated by a cross. These are in books and I don’t have a scanner otherwise I would post em. Hope this helps.
You are probably going to have to go out and buy a source for this. Try a websearch though – sometimes guys scan illustrations and put them on websites.
Try these search terms in google:
schwere panzer abteilung
heavy panzer battalions tiger
Here are unit markings if you don’t have them…
support the reference forum…this is what it would be all about.
It doesn’t show up well there, try the link to my post:

THanks for the help guys. I’ll try google. Yahoo helped alittle.
about what time period were you looking for?
Thats a tough one. I don’t have any online pics, but I have some in Wolfgang Schneiders great book " Tigers in combat 1 ". This is a Picture book, and there are hundreds and hundreds of pics here… but only 9 of the 506 tiger II 's. The unit used both the “Porshe”
turret version and the production turret version. I haven’t found any special markings on hte Tiger II 's but the Tiger I 's had a big W on the back of the turret ( which stood for Willing the battalion commander ) with a tiger in the midle ( The animal not the tank ) holding a shield emblazoned with a white cross on red background. There is one great picture of an abandoned Tiger II near Villers la Bonne Eau in the winter of 1944 / 45, no zimmerit, hand painted balkenkreuz on the turret with the numbers 03 in solid red ( thats a guess since the pic is B & W ) could also be solid blue or black…
I have details on two Tiger II 's of the 506.
314: Numbers on the side of the turret in Black with yeloow outline
the number are painted like this " 3 balkenkreuz 14 " so the 3 and the 14 are divited by the balkenkreuz, the camo is dark yellow with stripes of brown .
212: Numbers on the side of the turret in Red with White outline, again the 2 and the 12 are divited by the balkenkreuz. The camo is the standard three tone camo with dark yellow, green and brown. both tanks have zimmerit.
The unit saw action in Arnhem, Aachen and the Ardennes with the Tiger II.
I can’t believe this. Im so slow that 4 people post in this thread before I can finish my reply. [:D]
But I see its the same Tiger guys as always. [;)]
Like ausf said. support the Book / reference forum here is a link http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18633
I’m looking for some info on the unit at Arnhem/Oosterbeek during Operation Market Garden 17 Sept-25 Sept, 1944.
Some of the Tigers at Arnhem were the ones with the " Porsche " turret. These were painted in a dark yellow and green camo scheme. They only had a hand painted balken kreuz on the side of the turret and no numbers or any unit markings.
Thats all the info I have on Tigers from 506 at Arnhem.
This is THE EPITOME of a REFERENCE FORUM. In just over an hour, bits of info from multiple sources answer a specific question in detail, Monrad, if you noticed the last emblem in the above post is what you describe fully, now I have info to go with the pic…
Like I said before, the wealth of knowledge in this forum is outstanding.
All this is early in the post. If it could ‘stick around’ it could be embellished over weeks, not hours, and would eventually be a comprehensive history.
We couldn’t agree more ausf.
It has been quiet lately in the Book / reference forum thread in the suggestions and feedback forum, and I haven’t heard from Lawrence yet.
thats what ive found out too
plus some had a similar looking exhaust as the Tiger 1s
Sorry no front or rear, but this might help;
Nice reference!
Thanks for all the info guys.

Ask wbil76 here on the forums. He knows everything there is to know about tanks, period.
Thanks for the vote of confidence Karl but when it comes down to unit-specifics and histories, there are a lot more knowledgeable people around than I. I’m not much of a “big cat” fan so haven’t gone that deeply into them like others have. Looks like he’s been pointed in the right direction and I now have a new bookmark to add to my favorites. [:D]
