Actually, tops’sal schooner. This is one of those East Asian low cost ships that I have mentiond in other threads. I personally think these kits are nice as introduction to wood plank-on-frame modeling. If you mess it up you have lost only about 10 % of an expensive European wood kit. They are pretty sparse, no blocks, deareyes or belaying pins, etc. But it doe teach POF ship modeling. For awhile they were only found at Amazon, but Walmart has now picked them up. As you can see below, I have just started the kit, building a jig and iserting the main center section and one frame. I will show major progree signs
Wow! Walmart is selling these wooden ship kits now. I’ll have to swing and take a look in our store. What department are they kept in, crafts, toys, etc. Good luck with the build.
I only saw them on their online page- in fact I just googled the kit, and the only hits were Walmart and Amazon.
They look good for the price. I guess that if Walmart is selling them they will be original manufacturer’s kits. Not sure about what gets sold ln Amazon, but would guess that they would not knowingly sell counterfeit goods
There are many counterfeit wooden boat and ship model kits that get made in the far east circulating that look tempting to buy. One has to remember that each and every knock off kit that gets sold undermines the original kit designer/maker’s ability to fund their next model.
I’m not sure these are knock off kits- too simplified. I think these are from garage-shops with laser scanners- am sure they are laser cut. Cutting is quite accurate, though too tight- have to sand notches or bulkheads will get stuck in slots in keel before reaching bottom. I srewed up and placed on bulkhead in wrong slot. Awaiting new debonde, was all out.
