Hello
I enjoy building models of construction and special machinery, but such models are not available for purchase. So I used drawings and photographs from the internet and built this model.
This vehicle is designed for the repair of the tram overhead contact system and, as indicated by the markings, is used in the Polish city of Kraków. Scale 1:35.
The cabin and wheels are 3D printed from a Scania G400 model (scale 1:35), but it is a single cabin. I had to make a double cabin using two sets to create the double cabin. I also extended the frame and modified the roof.
The lifting equipment and wire manipulators is made from a plastic ruler, pieces of plastic cards, wire and paper clips.
The device for moving along tram rails was made from plastic and metal washers. I had the idea to create a diorama on the rails but changed my mind. Now I regret that the entire mechanism is hidden under the frame.
For the platform floor, I used veneer from ship models, and the catenary measurement systems is made of plastic and wire. It was interesting to learn that the construction of such platforms uses wood entirely, specifically oak. The platform is attached to the frame through insulators.
I created the decals for the model in Photoshop, and they were printed.
Lookin’ good! And extra plus points from me for being a Polish subject!
Once I thought about building something like this, because I was working with firefighters that had a fire engine with double Scania cab - but I didn’t have the pressure to follow through with that project…
Lots of builders could probably use 3D printed sides for diverse double cabs to help them in their conversion projects… Would save a lot of work and buying a second kit…
Thank you Paweł. I saw a lot of interesting civilian vehicles in Krakow and technique for tram system is the most interesting. So i deside to build it. There are no double cab in scale 1-35, i know only soviet ZIL 130 fire truck. So only 3d print can help.
