When Promodeler released this one around 1997, I jumped on it an made an Atlantic white/gray scheme, rather clean look. The radar pod is scratched and few things added in the cockpit. The undercarriage wheel wells are rebuilded, but I’ve lost the pics… A wonderfull kit, that only needs some care along the wings joints.
Nice work… Always liked the look of the Son of a B*tch 2nd Class and the Atlantic camo really makes it a head-turner… A late Marine friend of mine was a gunner in the Beast after WW2 ended and said it was a bird he loved to hate, but refered to it as an SBDueceC (Ess-bee-DOO-see) In one of his sea-stories he mentioned that the pilots really hated it when the turtleback was down because apparently it caused a lot of buffeting…
That is a great-looking plane! I didn’t realize that radar was small enough to be carried in a pod on those things. With radar technology being very new back then, I would not have thought that all the radar electronics would fit in such a small space (power supplies, antennae, electronics, etc.). Impressive build!
