Any ideas??
Is it any good?
Etc, etc…
I’ve been lookong for one of those kits for the last 2 years without success. I believe the old monogram kits are OOP.
Two kits by Monogram… well, one OLD kit by Monogram and the other by Revellogram.
The old kit really isn’t worth the time for a build so long as you’ve got something better available.
That something better is the ProModeler kit by Revell-Monogram and it’s a beaut. The only real problem with the kit was only evident in later production examples; the windscreen isn’t fully molded and some of the frame detail is lost.
The real problem, however, is the fact that the ProModeler kit isn’t currently available. Revell of Germany released it sometime back, but I dunno if it’s still in their catalog or not. You can check here:
If it’s still in the catalog, you can probably get it through a good mail order house, or your local shop… (if you have one)
Fade to Black…
Well, you have the Rev/Monogram Promodeler which is a nice kit. Well detailed engraved panel lines. You have the original Monogram kit which has been reboxed over the years, working features, overall shape is ok but more toy like so to speak. Now Nichimo also had a 48th scale Helldiver also, but it seems it was a reboxing of the Monogram kit but geared toward modelers not as a toy. This kit had raised panel lines, wingfold option, little heavy on the rivets.
The best is the Pro-Modeler kit, I built it a few years ago, (it also took flight one day so I no longer have it) lots of detail, some minor issues and you don’t see that many built compared to the Avenger or Dauntless. Other than the old Monogram kit and the Nichimo kit this is it in this scale.

Fly Navy
We probably don’t see as many modelers making SB2C Helldivers because, via reading and talking to a couple of former Helldiver pilots, the general feeling among those who flew it ranged from mild distaste to outright hatred. They really wanted their Dauntlesses back! Curtiss took a long time to get the SB2C to the war, and it wasn’t ready even then. But, it went on to fly with the French postwar, among others. But, I’m guessing it’s not overly popular as a modeling subject because their is a distinct lack of historical legend (that’s a heck of an oxymoron, I must say), or even affectionate lore from the pilots who flew them, when it comes to the Helldiver.
But I sure want one of those out-of-production ProModeler kits. I’ve heard good things about it. I saw the photoetched dive flaps on the kit when it first came out and they looked great.
I want to build one also as my Dad was crewchief on them at El Toro in 1945.

Not the right scale, but Academy is showing a future release of a Helldiver in 1/72. Hope it’s as nice as their P-38.
