Sanding/Cleaning out Mold Lines in Clear Parts

Need a little assist. I finally got the 1/48 Hasegawa AV-8B II+ yesterday and knew from previous reviews and posts that the windscreen and canopy have mold lines running right through the center of both parts. I can’t find the post that details how to fix this problem and get rid of the mold lines. How do I get rid of them without destroying the parts?

Appreciate the help! Thanks!

Fine sanding sticks progressing to about 800 or 1000 then dip in Future.

Swanny,

That simple, huh. No other plastic polishing compounds needed? Awesome! Thanks![:)]

I always polish after using the sanding sticks. I use Bare Metal’s Plastic Polish, but toothpaste will work as well.

yup, that’s all there is to it! I got down to 1500 grit on mine, then toothpaste like Rick said, then future… can’t tell the diff from the original! (except no line down the middle)

If you are going to use the toothpaste trick use toothpaste that contains baking soda - that’s your polishing media.

Thanks for the tips Gents! [:)]

good luck on the canopy!!!

And don’t forget to use a good flouride rinse after brushing! Prevent’s decay, plus it leaves your model minty fresh! [;)]

As an afterthought, at Wal Mart in the cosmetic section they have a set of 3 nail boards with some kind of vynil covering on them… a fine, extra fine and smooth as glass one… those worked great on the HH-65 canopy I was working on… went from one to the other… the last one had it about as clear as future would have had it… put some future on and it looked even better!

I sanded with the abovementioned grits first… then went to the sticks…

Lots of very helpful modeling aids in the Cosmetic section. Course you get some strange looks sometimes [:)].
