San Francisco Cable Car Diorama

My daughter has lived in SF for 10 years now. Love going to visit her. She lives in Nob Hill close to the California Street Cable Car line, and we have ridden it many times. Now that she may be leaving SF, I decided to build her the Occre SF Cable Car (#53007) to remind her of all the wonderful times she has had there.

The diorama will consist of the completed cable car riding up the hills of California Street, and will include a trolley stop with sign & bench, and a few passengers and a grip (driver).

Follow along if you would like. I will, of course, be lighting the Occre model with headlight, marker lights, interior car lights, and even a streetlight or two.

For those wishing to build the Occre model, I have reprinted the color manual in English with the pictures. I can send it via PDF if anyone is interested. Just PM me.

I plan on posting an image of each “Step” in the process to show my work, how it all goes together, and what modifications I made to the car itself.

I’m very interested in watching this build. Thanks for posting and good luck

Hi;

Well I used to ride one to work.

Hey Bob-- this sounds cool! Many years ago I visited SF and one of the souvenirs I brought back was a wooden cable car meant for display. I still have it to this day.

I look forward to seeing this come together.

Steve

That is really cool and different!

Looking forward to more!

A little more progress on the cable car.

Built all the benches, stained, and varnished.

Began assembly of the car. Started with staining and varnishing interior portions. Then assembled (wood glue) to the chasis. This step requires quite a bit of filling & sanding (and filling & sanding, etc.) in order to remove any noticeable lines and gaps.

Then started painting with the three colors (lt. blue, maroon & white).

Thanks for looking!
