Salt stains on a submarine?

Building a 1/200 Type IXC U-boat, and wondering if it would be realistic to apply some white pastel as salt stains on this sub.

Thanks,

DJ

No because of the forward motion of the sub they would not permently adhear. You need to remember that salt was a dreaded bad guy, so you wouls see the men all the time hosing down the upper works after it was seen the sub would be in the suface position for a while *ie) dock or other repairs. However, you would have rust stains, no matter how new the vessle was. and the would go STRAIGHT DOWN not slanting toward the rear as some modelers do.

The salt would be unrealistic. Any deposits would have either been dissolved when the vessel dived, or as Big Jake said, hosed off in port. Also go easy on the rust, around the hawse and ballast tank vents, maybe the hatches, but don’t over do it, too many modellers do.

Thanks guys. It will be rust only and straight down!

Just add some rust if you want, salt wasn’t visible.

It’s not a sub, but here is a well weathered referance.
