Sally B grounded by European Regulations

Fade to Black…
Do I understand this right - the Brits will let a 747 stagger on three engines from LA to an emergency landing in England and the EU won’t let a B-17 fly around the airport on four?
[:(!] That really is a shame, hopefully they can find a solution.
Me Too !

And to think I thought the US was the only country to be over-regulated by bureaucrats!
The US is tame in comparison…trust me.
It’s nothing to do with reliability. It’s the third party insurance costs and the EU government is powerless to excempt the aircraft. If the aircraft were to fly and, god forbid, crash into people, who would be sued? Not the governements, not the show organisers but the restorers of Sally B. The insurance is to protect the restorers form liability. Blame the insurance companies taking advantage of the paranoia created by Sept 11. Many historical organsations are suffering because of insurance costs.
Cheers
Shane
They didn’t gripe about them flying around in the 40’s. Regardless of how many engines were still running.
What a farce! All those letters from our so called ministers & leaders holding up their hands & telling them there’s nothing they can do. What a load of b******t! There’s nothing they WANT to do.
What a ludicrous regulation to group planes together purely by their weight! Europe has its benefits to the UK, but it also has its drawbacks when we get lumbered with stupid, badly thought out legislation like this. It’s patently obvious that no-one even thought about the needs of a historic flight like the Sally B - It needs changing, and NOW!
I don’t get it, why ot’s this strict.
In the Netherlands - derived mostly from EU regulations - it’s forbidden to drive without:
What’s the point of this? Well, that it doesn’t count for old cars.
My boss had up until a few months a Jaguar Mk 2 that could have been rejected on all aforementioned criteria. But it wasn’t, because these rules do not count for old cars/oldtimers!
Think of environment regulations, getter more strict by the minute. Old cars and planes still can fly (sometimes restricted, but still). Why can’t this be treated the same for Miss Sally?
Humpf!
Shame that has to happen to a beautiful bird.
[:O]at such an important time as this, with it being one of the last times we can honour the men and women who saw us through those terrible times of ww2 it is beyond belief that stupid rules will deprief people from seeing this beautiful aircraft grace our skies.
Just to '“T” the EU off is fly Miss Sally back to her origninating country and show her off here instead
I would swap the regulations of the USA for EC any day. One must not make excuses for them - they are job creation specialists and will continue to think up pathetic excises for regulations for many many years. Incredibly many other EU contries ignore or exempt themselves from regulations that do not suite them but the remaining Brits in the UK are stil suffering from guilt complex about winning the war, having an empire and at one time being pretty good at almost everything. Cynical yes - but the only way to survive. Apologies for digressing - Oh yes I will continue to support Sally B
the EU is an arse
they try to ban bent bananas and now this
We in the US have our insurance and liability tort porblems have the EC to thank. What happens over there seems to come here sooner or later.
It costs me an arm and a leg to attend airshows in My O2-A. Don’t ask about my medical malpractice costs!
