Sail colors

I did a search for this topic and was unable to find anything.

I am working on the build of a Le Solei Royal by Heller (see my build post ), I am getting close to the point were I will be starting to add the sails, I will not use the plastic sails that came with the kit, I am planning to use parchment paper to build my sails, my question is a simple one with a complicate answer: What color should I apply to the sails.

I am not very good in the color mixing of paints department, is there a commercials available color ( acrylic ) that I can use for my sails? What would be the best color combination for a ship of that era?

I was thinking of a base color applied with my airbrush ( maybe a very light sand or beige ) with some sort of a wash ( Using maybe a dark brown or black ) What would the good members of the blog would recommend?

Thanking you in advance

Joe

Post this to “ships”.

When ordering some Mr Color, I did see in their laquer line…045, sail color. Looked over in the Aqueous line, and see they have 085N, sail color in acrylic.

No idea what either looks like when as applied.

Was seen on the sprue bro site, might check other vendors that handle the line.

I was going to do so when I saw a message that says all paint and airbrush questions should go in the “paint and airbrush” section.

Should I ask the question in the “ships” section?
