AWWWW, CRAP!
NUTS!
I read the two threads on Steel Navy, and then went to ModelWarships to read some more.
This is really sad news to ship modelers, no matter what your special area of interest is in the genre.
Believe it or not, it also affects aircraft and AFV modelers as well,WEM has some of the best paints for those in their ColourCoats range.
Oh well, time for anyone that hasn’t already done it to go over to Snyder & Short and get your Paint chip pages. We are loosing paint companies and paint ranges pretty suddenly these days.

This is a disaster for our hobby. WEM products are exceptional. I will miss them.

This is bad news!
That really is a shame. I was always able to find what I needed when I couldn’t it anywhere else.
Indeed.
Really bad news !
That’s a shame…

I had a quick look first thing this monring and they had stock still showing so in 4 hours its all closed out

Let us face it. The PE was too expensive in USD due to the GBP exchange rate. Equally useful stuff from Toms or Asian Rim for much less and to a degree GMM.
Do not know about their own model lines as I never bought one.
It is what they offered. I found many of their PE sets were of better quality and detailed compared to Toms and other companies.
The first full set of PE I added to a ship came from WEM–their USS New Orleans offering. I liked the way it had everything you needed for outfitting the ship, in one place. Plus it was easy stuff to shape and very delicate and petite to look at.
This is certainly a major loss for the ship-building end of the hobby.
Yeah, I bought loads of their PE but the exchange rate drove me to other vendors. $65 PE for a $25 model is nuts. Cannot tell the difference once mounted and painted between it and the cheaper stuff from here, Czech, Asian, other countries
This is indeed really sad news. I only started using them a couple of years ago when I was getting some PE for a U-Boat kit and they were the only place that did it. They have a great range of ship colours and a great selection of other items and this seems to have come out of no where, I had thought they were the go to store for all things ship.
Really sorry to see them go.
Gee, you mean not all PE cost more than the model, LOL.
I’ve found that a lot of time GMM and WEM would cover a lot of the big items that had to be done if you were adding PE (such as railings and radars) but the small additional stuff was often different between the two (GMM would cover a gun or something whereas WEM would provide a detail piece for a turret that GMM didn’t do). Using both could really make a nice impact on a model ship.

This is definitely a bummer.
