Attn. All Master Modeler paint users,
I’m sure many have you have heard about Rust Oleum trimming the Model Master paint line. As an avid user of the Master Modeler paints, I’m dreading what colors, paint jars or spray cans will be affected. What’s the alternate? The FS colors are very plentiful & I’m very satisfied w/ the wide choice of colors. Do we vent our displeasure w/ Rust Oleum?
Any advice, suggestions, ideas are welcomed for future comments.

I don’t think we modelers can get Rust Oleum to change its business plan for us. Best thing to do is vote with our wallets, and everybody quit buying Model Master and Rust Oleum products. We all might as well switch over to alternate paint sources completely, right now.
In enamels, the only other choice out there is Humbrol. They make many of the FS matched paints that Model Master makes, or has discontinued. In acrylics there are multiple options.
WHAT ? I was under the impression that Testor’s made Model Master paints. or does Rustoleum own Testors too ?
Yes, Model Master paints are a line by Testors, which in turn is owned by Rustoleum.
Which, in turn is owned by RPM Industries.
While you’re not buying Rustoleum, check their other brands. You’ll be surprised at how deeply imbedded in commercial and home paint & finishing products they are.
Varthane is a popular finish for wooden furniture, as is Watco. Painter’s Touch is a popular DIY spray paint, check the aisle at Home Despot or Lowes. Zinnser is a primer, Parks is lacquer & paint thinners. Etc.
You may have to go back to grinding your own pigments and mixing with linseed oil to make your paints

Might have missed it but are they trimming down the line again?
I havent noticed any revamps on the paint racks or their website in the past year or so.
Are they stopping them because they’re already running competing lines and it doesn’t make sense to run both? As the list above implies they have many fingers in many pies, they maybe rolling some of the discontinued paints into the other line so they’re just running 1 paint line.
Who knows… They have bought up several of their previous competitors paint lines such as Floquil/Polly S and Pactra, then eventually discontinued those paint lines. While they did create a small railroad themed paint selection in their acrylics, it is a fraction of what was available in the Floquil railroad color paint lines, both enamel and acrylic. Nor have they come up with many of the military colors from the previously named paint lines in eith acrylics or enamels. If Testors was to expand their acrylic lines to cover what they are chopping in enamels, fine. But they are not. And their quality control has taken a dive in my experience. For hobbyists of many sorts, Testors is on a self destruct path in my view.
Has Dullcoat taken a decline too? They were the defacto rattle can matte varnish everyone was using last time I checked. I’m about to restock my supply unless there’s a better option. Last time I bought a pack of 3 they had just changed the recipe
I bought a can of Dullcoat recently. It is fine.
Several years ago they offered an enamel version of Glosscoat. I did not like it at all. Took days to dry, with no better gloss than the lacquer version. As long as you stick to the lacquer clearcoats they are fine. Just read the labels carefully.
I stopped using Testors rattlecan gloss coat and dull coat years ago when I started noticing discoloration streaks from decal solutions and a tendency to get an overall color shift over time on older finished builds where I had used the stuff.
I switched to Future for my go to gloss coat and Humbrol for my go to flat coat.
